Metal News.
First up, a reminder that there's still time to cast your votes for the 2005 Metal Storm Awards; voting in this will run until the end of February, with the winners announced in March. To vote, go to www.metalstorm.ee/awards/index.php. As a matter of interest (and to maybe encourage those who have not already done so to take part), local underground outfit Mournful Congregation have been fortunate to have one of their releases, 'The Monad Of Creation', nominated for an award in "The Best Doom Metal Album" category.
Be at The Underground on Fri 24 Feb for the all-ages "Graveyard
Gunfight", featuring The Borderland, Wishlist, 919, Day On Fire
and Hearts'N'Chaos. Doors open at 7 PM.
Local band Tidal play their first show for 2006 at Le Rox/Bridgeway Hotel on Sat 25 Feb. Doors open at 7 PM for this licensed all-ages show, which will also feature Double Dragon, Melbourne's Nothing Remains and two new local outfits, Fist Of Ashes and Herfirstkiss.
Alternatively, if punk is more your thing, you may wish to spend
the night of Sat 25 Feb at the Enigma Bar instead, where local
punk maniacs The Dead Bollocks will be doing their first show
in over a year. The occasion will be Johnny Cash's birthday,
so as a tribute punters are encouraged to dress in black, or,
even better, as the man himself. According to band member Tex,
The Dead Bollocks are now in their twentieth year, and "have
gone largely unnoticed on the local scene. [However, we] are
lucky enough to have a loyal following that enables us to play
venues such as Enigma in our own right. Last year's gig in January
saw over 300 party faithful enjoy a plethora of vegetable abuse,
and on this occasion [there will be] a backdrop of country thrash."
Guests on the night will be Transmitter and DJ Troy; for more
info, go to www.deadbollocks.com.
Alternatively again, you may prefer to spend Sat 25 Feb attending the first of two CD launches for fellow local punks Standard Union's newest release, 'The Lonely Victories'. This will be held at the Crown & Anchor with Bastard Squad; the second launch will be held at the same venue on Sun 26 Feb with Bastard Squad, The Assailants, Bombscare and NFI.
During these depressing times of overseas bands deciding to
bypass Adelaide during so-called "Australian" (ho ho) tours,
it's always heartening to hear of touring groups who haven't
forgotten we exist. First, it was Opeth (who will be doing an
all-ages show here at Thebarton Theatre on Fri 21 Apr; tickets
for this are now on sale), now word has come to me that Funeral
For A Friend (who were last here for Taste of Chaos) will be
dropping by for a show, also at Thebarton Theatre, on Wed 5
April, with support from the UK's Fightstar and My Awesome Compilation,
and Australia's own Behind Crimson Eyes.
