Metal News.
Monthly metal event The War Room will be doing its first show for the new year on Thurs 26 Jan at the Enigma Bar. The special Australia Day event will feature local outfits The Rivalry and The Jonestown Syndicate, as well as Melbourne's Here I Die. As always, metal DJs will be playing tunes between sets; since the show will be taking place on Australia Day, there will be an especial emphasis on songs by Australian bands.
Also at the Enigma Bar will be an 18+ show on Fri 27 Jan featuring
Sarsekim, Of The Human Condition..., Juggermath and Synnove.
In one of those occasional announcements that's not strictly
metal-related, but which may nonetheless interest readers of
this column, Adelaide's leading gothic club, Necromancy, returns
for 2006 on Sat 28 Jan at the Enigma Bar. Beginning at 10 PM,
the show will have DJs playing tracks from such diverse genres
as classic goth, 80s music, synthpop, EBM, industrial dance,
and dark alternative, and will also feature drink specials and
Movie Maniacs giveaways. Necromancy will run on the last Saturday
of every month except February, when it will break for the Fringe.

On Sat 18 Feb, Plague Promotions presents "a night of musical
extremes", with Obsidian Aspect, Quasar, Beyond Mortal Dreams,
Imminent Psychosis and Sarsekim doing an all-ages show at Fowlers
Live. Doors open at 7pm.
American band Against Me! will be doing their second Australian tour next month, playing an all-ages show here on Thurs 23 Feb at the Enigma Bar, with support from Brisbane punk band The Disables and Melbourne's A Death In The Family. The band's recently-released third album, 'Searching for a Former Clarity', is available on Fat/Shock.
The final line-up has just been announced for this year's Overcranked
punk, rock and metal festival, to be held at the RNA Showgrounds
in Brisbane on Sat 18 March. Held over four stages, both indoors
and outdoors, this show will feature forty bands, as well as
markets, stalls, art displays, performance art, and even a tattoo
show. For those prepared to make the trip, tickets can be purchased
over the Internet (go to www.overcranked.com) or by calling
1300 762 545.
The year just past has been a fairly big one for Byron Bay's Parkway Drive. Among other things, the band were voted the "Favourite Australian Breakthrough Act" on Bombshellzine.com Readers' Poll; came in second on Triple J's ShortFastLoud Listeners' Top 40 (coming after Propagandhi, making them the top-ranking Australian outfit); recorded their debut album, 'Killing With A Smile', in the US with Killswitch Engage's Adam Dutkiewicz; did a shitload of tours, including one of New Zealand; and shot their first video clip for their song, Smoke Em If You Got Em. They don't look like slacking off in 2006 either as they'll soon be embarking upon a two-month national tour entitled the All Ages Assault tour. They'll be coming here on Sun 26 March when they'll play at Fowlers Live, and will be swinging by SA again at the very end of the tour, playing at the Mt Gambier RSL Club on Fri 28 April, and the Westies Football Club in Whyalla on Sun 30 April. Tickets are now on sale; if you're interested, best buy them sooner rather than later, for many of the band's shows have been sellout events.
I recently received a message from a new band Bullet Outta Body,
who wish to draw people's attention to their website: www.bulletouttabody.com.
The band record their own music and put it on their site, where
people can download it for free.
Not much more to report in this column, save that a bunch of big-name bands will soon be doing so-called "Australian tours" that conveniently happen to bypass Adelaide. So they won't be getting any publicity here!
