Prize Frenzy™!
When the history of the 21st Century is written by our future robot overlords, one name will cause their processors to seize up in fearful recollection of the final battle between the cyborgs and the biologicals. That name is Frenzor™, the immortal demonic overlord of Prize Frenzy™, and it is he that will be the last line of defence against the shiny, missile-bearing droid armies. Of course, that's partially because he will have wiped out humanity by that stage; but in the meantime he's loaded up his vile and pungent Prize Sack with a whole lot of wintastic prizery, which you can dip into by calling 8231 0881 at 1pm on Fri 27 Jan and asking for one of the things what are listed under here. Look! There they are!
1. Peter Strelan is a hard man to impress, but he's been won over by the sprawling majesty of My Morning Jacket's 'Z', which is this issue's 'We Liked it And You Will Too' - and SonyBMG celebrate his fine taste with a handful of copies for your listening pleasure.
2. If there's a Big Day Out it's reasonable to assume that there'll be an accompanying Big Day Out CD: and, as it happens, there is! We've got three copies of the 2006 compilation up for grabs, thanks to the BDO team and SonyBMG.
3. The Dandy Warhols 'Odditorium Or Warlords Of Mars' has been out for a while, but sometimes CDs need a chance to sink in: as you'll see when you read Andrew P Street's review in this issue and then grab a copy thanks to EMI.
4. The Hilltop Hoods are back, baby: they're at the Big Day Out, they're interviewed in this issue, and we have seven - count 'em! - copies of their brand new single Clown Prince, thanks to Obese.
5. Lagwagon are hitting our shores shortly, and will be interviewed in the very next issue of dB Magazine, but why not whet your rock'n'roll appetite by grabbing a double pass to their Tues 14 Feb show at the Adelaide UniBar, thanks to Blue Murder?
6. Moonlight Cinema's still lighting up Botanic Park, and we've got in-season double passes from the sweethearts at Entertainment PR that will allow you to see such films as 'The Proposition', 'Caddyshack', 'Batman Begins', 'Thumbsucker', 'Oyster Farmer', 'Tim Burton's Corpse Bride' and 'Good Night, And Good Luck'. How excellent is that?
7. EMI are releasing a special four pack of singles in your favourite record store for a scant $5, but here you can grab a pack for free, thus saving you $4.75 (less from payphones and mobiles). Each one contains Coldplay' Talk, Gorillaz' Dirty Harry, KT Tunstall's Suddenly I See and Yellowcard's Light And Sound. You go, EMI!
8. The Realist Few are launching their 'Fraud/Correction' CD at Enigma on Sat 4 Feb, along with Melbourne's Forza Liandri who have kindly slipped us two double passes via Trey Devlin Promotions.
9. There's a little 50 Cent in all of us - indeed, there's almost that much in the dB Magazine petty cash right now - and UIP have furnished us with a number of packs containing in-season double passes to his film plus t-shirts and caps emblazoned with the 'Get Rich Or Die Tryin'' motif. Don't hate the playa, dear reader: hate the game.
10. Or maybe you'd like to see the cream of the world's comedians all telling the same filthy, filthy joke in their own imitable style? We've got in-season passes to 'The Aristocrats' in order that you might do just that, thanks to Communikate.
11. Andrew P Street has totally fallen in love with 'Apologies To The Queen Mary' by Wolf Parade, as evidenced by the lovey-dovey tone he takes with Arlen Thomson in this issue, and we celebrate his whisper of the heart via three copies of said CD, thanks to Stomp.
Online Only Frenzy™!
The Frenztron6000™ maintains the BDO vibe with a copy of Sophie Howarth's book 'Peace, Love And Brown Rice', covering her years as official touring photographer for the Big Day Out (which you can also see in exhibition form at the event). How can it be yours? Well, send andrew@dbmagazine.com.au a short explanation of what BDO moment they wish/hope Ms Howarth had captured and why: best/most amusing answer gets themselves this ideal coffee-table conversation piece.
