Yay! Who loves Australia Day? I do: I'm getting all proud and patriotic, so I just might sing:

Australians all let us rejoice,
Especially the young and free!
Because on Thurs 26 Jan,
We get Andy C!

With GQ on the mic
and Carl Cox on board,
The goodness is assured!
So head along to Stardust,
It's held at the Shores!

Plus there's Lee Burridge, John Course, Mr Timothy and Grant Smilie playing alongside the best Adelaide has to offer, but I'm running out of room to keep up the song motif. Just head to the Shores on Thurs 26 Jan: it's a day party, so take lots of sunscreen - and for those who are working, the after party will be held at St Pauls.

But before that, Australia Day Eve has some exciting shows too. Last time Sunshine Jones of the Dubtribe Soundsystem hit Adelaide he played for four hours, delivering a hybrid set of live performance, DJing, singing, drums & dub effects at Sugar's Tribal Party. Sugar is very happy to have the enigmatic and powerful performer back on Wed 26 Jan.

Fuzzy are releasing their second 'Fuzzy Breaks' CD, awesomely mixed by The Drumattic Twins and James Taylor, and Savvy are presenting 'Warm and Fuzzy' on Wed 25 Jan. The Drumattics rocked Adelaide last year, and James Taylor was a wonderful warm up before Fat Boy Slim on New Years Eve, and it's damn cool to have James Taylor hit Adelaide for a funky-house-on-an-electro tip breaks show.

I used to like Shotz back when I had a job and used to relax after a hard slog in the factory with some fine drink, women and song. Well, Shotz pool hall has a new Thurs night gig, put on by MiracleX Productions. The main styles are House, RnB and 'Shotz Anthems', but there will be a variety of guests and styles throughout the summer. I've been informed that management have refurbished the whole venue, including the pool tables, so head down for a cool drink and game of pool!

Adelaide's premier trance night brings one of Holland's top club trance DJs, Bob Ltd, for another night of trancey goodness at Echo alongside residents Matt Parker, DJ Solace, Cygnify, RE and Mr S. Echo is at Tonic on Fri 27 Jan.

On Sat 28 Jan Karma at Earth presents Sydney legend Pee Wee Ferris, SystemBot performing live, plus regular DJs RE, Damage, Josh, Banshee, Odyssey and H-Bomb, There's also an unconfirmed special mystery international guest!

With Mylo dropping out of the Big Day Out on Fri 3 Feb due to sickness, the Boiler Room line up is looking it weakest it has done in years. I'm sure all the acts there will still be much appreciated, especially for presenting something different for once, but even I've got to admit it's a little meh, particularly from an Adelaide point of view. No drum and bass, little hard house, and not much hip-hop. At least Hilltop Hoods are performing, and this year on the main Orange stage, indicating just how popular they've become.

However, is an interesting new dance concept on tour with the BDO this year: Silent Disco. Held in one of the dodgem car rinks, two DJs play simultaneously, but there's no music - everyone is given radio headphones, and can tune into either of the DJ and dance around to whichever music they prefer! Strange concept, but according to the press release it's taken the UK by storm! And my I add that yours truly has been asked to play, so come check it out.

On Fri 3 Feb Australia's number one DJ, Mr Kid Kenobi, plays Tonic! Kenobi is a key figure in Australia's breaks scene, playing festivals both here and abroad. His partner in crime MC Sureshock will join him alongside John Doe with Funkshop residents Patch & Fiction. The gig after last years Big Day Out last year was massive, so get there early because they have very limited capacity.

And finally, some rather sad news. Fun loving DJ/producer Mark Spoon was found dead in his German aparment. The 39 year old trance superstar, who formed half of Jam & Spoon, achieved massive commercial and critical success in the early 90s, with the worldwide hit Right In The Night (Fall In Love With Music) and remixes for acts including Quincy Jones, the Pet Shop Boys and Moby. His perchant for hard living is thought to have played a role, with heart attack being the suspected cause of death.
