Metal News.
On Sat 21 Jan there will be an impressive metal lineup at the Enigma Bar with Obsidian Aspect, Synnove, Deafening Silence and Raven Black Night.
Sat 21 Jan will also see a huge all-ages show held at Fowler's
Live featuring The Jonestown Syndicate, Later That Night, A
Thousand Nightmares, Equal Minded, Victorian outfit Chase Manhattan,
Mt Gambier band Torn Identity, Prevail and Burning Effigy. The
gig may well be your last chance to see The Jonestown Syndicate
for quite some time; this band (who won the dBra award for "Best
Metal Act of 2005", and received a dBra nomination in the "Best
Release of 2005" category for their EP, 'Don't Let Them Fool
You... Beauty Is Forever') will soon be touring extensively
in Perth, Melbourne, Geelong, Sydney, Brisbane and New Zealand.
They also plan to start work on their debut full-length album
which will hopefully be out in November.
On Sun 22 Jan, Moonlight Cinema in Botanic Park will be screening the Canadian documentary 'Metal: A Headbanger's Journey'. Made in 2005 by metal fan Sam Dunn, and co-directed by Scot McFadyen and Jessica Joy Wise, the film travels across Europe and North America and documents both fans' and metal musicians' opinions of the genre and scene. Musicians featured in the film comprise Black Sabbath's Tommy Iommi, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, Dee Snider, Rush's Geddy Lee, Ronnie James Dio, Lemmy Kilmeister and Motley Crue's Vince Neil.
American band Against Me! will be doing their second Australian
tour next month, playing an all-ages show here on Thurs 23 Feb
at the Enigma Bar, with support from Brisbane punk band The
Disables, and Melbourne's A Death In The Family. Against Me!
started as the solo project of a seventeen year-old called Tom
Gabel in 1997, and their recently-released third album, 'Searching
For A Former Clarity', is available on Fat/Shock.
Hardcore/death metal band All Shall Perish, who hail from Oakland, California, have put out a new demo song entitled Eradication, which you can download at www.cracksmokingshirts.com. The band have also gotten a new vocalist in the form of Eddie Hermida (ex-Gunmetal Grey); rather predictably, the split with old vocalist, Craig Betit, was apparently all perfectly amicable. The band have also taken a new lead guitarist, Chris Storey, on board, and are hard at work on their second album, which will be released through Nuclear Blast.
This year will see the release of Sydney radio station 2ZZZ's
fourth 'Underearthed' compilation, and once again a number of
local bands have been fortunate enough to get material included
on it. This year, the local bands in question are The Loving
Tongue, Meat Wallet and Murder Hill. Congrats, lads.
Local hardcore group A Thousand Nightmares have just signed a sponsorship deal with Sedate Clothing. Other bands with deals with this clothing label include fellow locals All She Ever Wanted and With Dying Words, as well as UK pop-punk outfit The Fatal Mistake.
