Destiny's Child
#1's
SonyBMG
Since 2000 Destiny's Child have given us plenty of hits to feed our ears and the now-defunct girl group say goodbye with this very cool collection of the best songs of their career, wrapped in a winning golden case and titled '#1's'. As one of the most successful girl groups ever, each and every one of their releases has been thrashed on radio airwaves; hence it was surprising to find I wasn't sick of listening to them, but instead I was reminded of the trio's superb musical history.
The most recent stuff is all there (Soldier, Cater 2 U,
Girl) but it is the older tracks that haven't been played for
some time that are the icing on the cake, such as Jumpin' Jumpin',
No, No, No Part 2 (the remix featuring Wyclef Jean), Independent
Woman and my all time favourite DC hit Say My Name. I love
how this CD isn't in chronological order: such a small and seemingly
unimportant factor really heightens the trip down the Destiny's Child
memory lane, each track creeping up on you and taking you back to
different parts of the group's history and emphasising their growth
as artists. The 2005 World Children's Day Anthem Stand Up For Love
opens '#1's' and the other unreleased track Feel The Same Way
I Do, a song similar to their cover of Emotion, sways toward
the trio's more romantic side.
Before you wipe that nostalgic tear from your eye as you face a world
without Destiny's Child, take comfort with track five, Beyonce Knowles's
most recent solo release Check On It featuring Slim Thug. She
will most definitely continue to cater to fans as this song follows
the DC blueprint; although including it on '#1's' somewhat downplays
the importance of Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland. In any case,
if the world seems like a darker place without Destiny's Child as
this CD stops, just hit replay!
