Circle Of Dead Children
Zero Comfort Margin
Earache/Shock

With a name like Circle Of Dead Children they just have to be a death metal band - and indeed they are. This offering of theirs is a curious little piece of work, not least in its brevity; despite containing fifteen tracks, it's only about twenty minutes long. Most of the aforementioned tracks are fairly straightforward, no-frills death metal pieces, a couple of which end with rather cheerful-sounding samples. A third sample comprises a separate entry, Bohemian Grave, while three other tracks - Forward Through The Copper Sun, Whimper and Footprints in Fire - are rather weird noise ones.

Of the actual musical tracks, what standouts there are include Host(age) (if only because its slightly muffled sound makes it sound a little different from all the others), Playdumb (a cover of a song by the brilliantly named Hideous Mangleus), and For Black Eyes Only a.k.a. Depopulate: Tears Of Illuminati: the latter two entries the final two on the CD, as well as the longest and most complex. Playdumb could almost be considered catchy in places and contains some nice booming drums, while For Black Eyes Only... has a long, eerie stretch that comprises evil-sounding whispers and slow drumming set against a constant background hum that increases in pitch after a while.

While 'Zero Comfort Margin' is a decent enough slab of death metal and has some nice, original touches, the songs on it do unfortunately tend to get a little monotonous after a while, and its is also rather disappointing. Strictly one for fans of the genre.
