Metal News.
A reminder that semi-local grindcore band Captain Cleanoff will be doing one of their now-fairly-rare shows, playing at the Enigma Bar on Fri 23 Dec with The Rivalry and Guantanamo Bay City Rollers.
There'll be a number of big shows happening in the opening weeks
of the New Year, starting with a visit from Polish black metallers
Behemoth, who will play at the Enigma Bar on Fri 6 Jan with
support from Australian outfits The Amenta and Furor (who were
last here earlier in the month to support Nile). Boasts band
front-man, Nergal: "Our live show is pure energy. I've witnessed
people who've never been into this kind of music before become
fans after seeing us live. That means it's all about the interaction
and chemistry between the band and the crowd. Behemoth is a
live beast and that's a fact. We've just completed close to
200 shows in support of our latest album, 'Demigod'. The new
line-up is so concrete now, and working out sooo well that I
can't wait to play in Australia! It's an exotic place for us,
and the fact that there aren't many bands going there makes
it even more special. It's all about conquering this fuckin'
world, and I'm more than glad we're about to explore new territory!
We're pretty much playing songs from all the albums, though
as the last three or four records are my favourites, we're going
to focus on those. Old school freaks, however, can expect us
to play shit from the early '90s too; I'm sure they're all going
to love it! You have been warned!"
Next up will be the Adelaide leg of the To Die For Boys of Summer Tour at Fowlers Live on Fri 13 Jan. Featuring Parkway Drive, The Getaway Plan and Carpathian, as well as American visitors Evergreen Terrace, this show will be all-ages; doors open at 7:30 PM.
Finally, the second Festival of Power will take place at the
Governor Hindmarsh Hotel on Sat 14 Jan. Featuring local outfits
Raven Black Night, The Loving Tongue, Quasar and One Step Beyond,
the show will also see Sydney band Transcending Mortality take
the stage. To find out more about Transcending Mortality, and
maybe download MP3s of some of their songs, go to www.transcendingmortality.com.
Well, as I finish my last "Metal News" column for 2005, I'd just like to say that, while it had its more trying moments, the job has been a very satisfying one for me, and I look forward to resuming it, in just a few short weeks, in 2006. Hails to all the people who sent me stuff (as well as feedback), all the cool bands I interviewed during the course of the year, and all the folk who simply came up and said hi at shows. May Satan - er, I mean Santa - bring you all the sick things you've asked him for this Christmas!
