Prize Frenzy™!
Ho ho ho! Yes, Frenzor™'s filled with the joy and magic of the season, which is no small thing for a hundred-foot tall sulphur breathing hellbeast with a heart as black as the pitch which it pumps through its rotted and pustulant circulatory system. So let those cracked and tuneless bells ring in honour of the season, and ring 8231 0881 at 1pm on Fri 23 Dec to grab your Christmas goodness, before Frenzor™'s gentle good humour transforms back into his more standard blind, merciless fury.
1. Adelaide boys Pharaohs have been voted the best Australian release of 2005 by dB Magazine's staff and writers, and if you haven't fallen under their musical spell yet maybe you need a copy of their debut CD-EP 'The Forest For The Trees' (which is just about sold out, as it happens), thanks to the band.
2. It seems that just about every music magazine on the planet has voted The Arcade Fire as their album of the year, so it's no great surprise that it's also taken out best international release of 2005 here at dB Magazine - and well it should, since it's so extraordinarily good. And you can experience its considerable brilliance for yourself thanks to the lovely people at Spunk! who have sweetly sent three copies over.
3. The Living End are coming to rock the Big Day Out and Chris Cheney tells Matt Vesley all about it in this issue - and you can get in the mood via copies of their new single What's On Your Radio?, since EMI have kindly given us five copies.
4. We've got another whole load of in-season passes for Moonlight Cinema, thanks to the excellent folks at Entertainment Public Relations: enjoy quality films in the gorgeous environs of the Botanic Gardens, such as 'Wedding Crashers', 'Zoolander', 'Ghostbusters', 'Gremlins', 'Sky High', 'Charlie & The Chocolate Factory', 'Wolf Creek' and 'The Dukes Of Hazard', among others. The passes are valid for any session of any film (aside from those marked "no free list"), so the choice is yours!
5. Cassie Hilditch and Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas enjoy an illuminating chat about the latter's new CD 'First Impressions Of Earth', and mark this meeting of the minds via the giving away of copies of said album, courtesy of SonyBMG.
6. Or perhaps you feel the need to Escape From Christmas? We've got two double passes to the all-acoustic showcase at the Lizard Lounge on Fri 23 Dec with Kyri, Heather Frahn, Jess Lewis and Tristian Louth Robins, thanks to the organisers.
7. Want to see 100 comedians all telling the same filthy joke in their own inimitable fashion? Well, grab an in-season double pass to 'The Aristocrats', featuring the likes of Robin Williams, Chris Rock, Eddie Izzard, Phyllis Diller, Andy Dick, Jon Stewart, Trey Parker & Matt Stone, Billy Connolley and loads and loads more, thanks to Communikate.
8. And, as tradition dictates, we also have Prize Frenzy's annual Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With String: we take a selection of unclaimed prizes from throughout the year and bundle 'em up, allowing you to experience the Christmas morning excitement of opening a mystery present - but two days early! That's the dB Magazine difference right there.
