 | Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil Xbox Activision

I can only recommend this game if you're a fan of 'Doom 3', or alternatively you've never played 'Doom 3'. That sounds contradictory, but let me explain: if you liked 'Doom 3' you'll probably like this since it's pretty much exactly the same, plus a few improvements. Likewise, if you've not played 'Doom 3' then give it a miss and pick this one up since it's probably the better game.
The story takes place a few years after the original 'Doom 3'. You're a lone space marine sent on a mission to investigate strange happenings on Mars and... wait a minute - this is meant to be different than the last game, right? Well, an Artefact has turned up, and instead of crazed scientists trying to link our dimension to Hell, the minions of Hell are trying to get back on their own. So it's like 'Doom 3' but reversed so that... alright, it feels like the same game. Sure, they've added new levels, but it's still all Mars. You still walk through tunnels and shoot stuff, get freaked out by noises and flashes, and in later levels you fight meaner monsters that spawn in as soon as you grab the power up.
There are a few new items and basically these rip off other games: like the Ionized Plasma Levitator (or Grabber for short), which is a complete rip off of 'Half Life 2''s Gravity Gun. It's fun though, especially when throwing fireballs back at the Imps, but unlike the Grav Gun, it's very limited. No picking things up and barricading yourself in a room here! There's the Artefact - and if you hadn't picked it up in the first place you wouldn't be in the mess you're in now - which allows you to slow down time: hello, 'Max Payne'! And the Double Barrel shot gun, which is stolen from... well, 'Doom 2', so I guess that's OK. Oh, and the pistol now has a torch on the end, so you can shine it at things and shoot them if they move.
One big issue I had with the game was the inclusion of 'Doom 2' and 'Ultimate Doom'. Playing these on Xbox took me back to the days when I could stay awake all night on coffee and pizza playing video games, but it also reminded me how much fun 'Doom' was. It was the definition of 'run-and-gun" gameplay whereas 'Doom 3' is the definition of walk, get startled, walk, get startled, walk, walk, get pick up, shoot spawners, walk, walk...
'Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil' just doesn't do it for me. It's not a bad game in any way, the Xbox does have a lot of first person shooters and maybe I'm all shootered out, but I had difficulty getting my teeth into this.
