Crazy Penis
A Night On Earth
Shiva/UMA
UK's Crazy Penis was initially two DJs - Jim Baron and Chris Todd - and as their productions soon took residence in the record crates of many house DJs it was inevitable that requests for live performances would follow. Both felt that Crazy Penis needed to be more than just an DJ act and consequently bass player Tim Davies, percussionist Mav and vocalist Danielle Moore were added to the line up in 2000. Since then Crazy Penis has become one of the most popular live house acts, putting together some memorable compositions and live performances.
Their third original full-length album continues in the organic house
music vein and exploits the musical talents of the band members. The
result is like a journey through the deep dark side of funk within
the medium of house music. BumCop, Kicks and Sound
Science are proven club hits with their upbeat and infectious
melodies while Can't Get Down and Turnaway pay homage
to the electro pop sensibilities of the '80s and Sweet Feeling
and the title track are reminiscent of acid jazz heavyweights Incognito
and The Brand New Heavies. However, perhaps the highlight of the album
is Music's My Love which has the potential to have the same
success as past hit There's A Better Place.
'A Night On Earth' continues to showcase Crazy Penis as a creative and innovative band. There is so much to love about them: the unassuming productions, the infectious melodies, the infusion of live and synthesized sounds - and, of course, the name.
