Mythica
Mythica
Independent
This four-track EP is the debut offering of local extreme metal band
Mythica, and has arguably been a long time in coming since the band
formed in 2001. Opening proceedings on it is a short and rather pleasant
piece entitled simply Intro that provides little warning of the chaos
soon to be unleashed. The madness begins with the deathly odyssey
Eclipse Of Eternal Darkness: it's the longest track on the CD
and contains many black metal elements. Next up is The Servant
Of The Sun And The Earth, a darkly majestic black metal piece
with a distinctly Scandinavian flavour. Bringing the EP to its conclusion
is Yama-Uba, my favourite piece here. This slow but heavy entry
opens with a section of gentle-sounding music rather similar to that
on the first track before a nice, chunky, catchy riff kicks in. This
riff underpins a significant portion of the track, including its closing
stages, where it is combined with the gentle music of the intro to
great effect. Outstanding stuff.
This CD-EP provides a good introduction to the music of Mythica, all of the tracks on it sounding very different from one another; in addition, the production is polished, and the material well-crafted. Another gem from the local underground.
