Audio Bullys
Generation
Source/Virgin/EMI
Audio Bullys, the duo of young producers Tom Dinsdale and Simon Franks, have torn through the UK dance scene with their brand of electro-punk-rock-house music. Though still in their early twenties, both members already have had several years of production and DJing under their belts: Dinsdale has been DJing since he was 16 while Franks is more the classic musician, playing the piano and drums before discovering the sampler. Their youth shows in their production too; not through immaturity but through the sense of fun and rave nostalgia that oozes from the album.
'Generation,' their sophomore release, continues the streetwise vibe
and subterranean bass lines from their debut 'Ego War,' melding together
the house inflections of Basement Jaxx and the raw edge of Dizzee
Rascal and UK Garage. First single Shot You Down (which samples
the delicate vocals of Nancy Sinatra) is a definite highlight of the
album and is already proving to be a big hit in the clubs and in the
charts. However, the stand out tracks are the down beat/hip-hop productions
such as Keep On Moving, Made Like That (with a brilliant
cameo from Roots Manuva) and Get Myself On Track, mixing deep
phat beats and poignant lyrics.
Throughout the album you can sense that Audio Bullys are creating an evolutionary picture of their musical journey and influences, referencing 80s rock, hip-hop, new wave, garage, breaks, house and rave, creating a unique sound and vibe that let you know that they are definitely having fun - and you can't help but join the party.
