Metal News.

To begin this column on something of a sad note, I was recently informed that Earache Records Australia is no more. Unfortunately, reasons for the label's demise were not given.

Locals Later That Night launch their debut self-titled album at an all-ages show at the Enigma Bar on Sat 17 Dec. Fellow locals Double Dragon will also be playing, as will Geelong metalcore outfit The Red Shore, who are signed to the same label (Big Phat) as Later That Night. The show will be the first the star attraction have played in eight weeks; soon thereafter, they will tour extensively, with shows planned in Victoria and New South Wales, as well as regional South Australia (Mount Gambier will be one port of call). 'Later That Night' is out now.

In more local news, Truth Corroded have recruited a new drummer in the form of Sven Hentschel, who will rehearse with the band before making his debut early next year. Former drummer Matt Barnett played his final show with the outfit at the last War Room on Fri 25 Nov; the band "would like to express its gratitude to him for his time, and wish him the best for his musical ambitions." Barnett originally left Truth Corroded at the beginning of the year, but returned for a short period to fill in for another ex-drummer, Chris Canini. The band also wish to announce that they are negotiating an Asian licensing deal for their latest release, 'Our Enemy Is The Weapon'. More details on this as I get them.

Raven Black Night will be playing a show on a truck(!) in the car park of the Squatters Arms Hotel on Sun 18 Dec. Should be an interesting sight... Also playing will be Valhull, Hanging Tree, Defcon and a few others. Raven Black Night now have T-shirts out, which are available (along with their CD) at Big Star Records. The band also still have their sights set on playing at next year's Headbangers Ball in Germany, citing the appearance of classic metal acts Candlemass and Girlschool at that festival as "a good incentive to take our spot on the bill!"

Polish extreme metal act Behemoth will be doing an Australian tour in the opening weeks of the New Year, playing here on Fri 6 Jan at the Enigma Bar. The tour will be in aid of promoting their most recent album, 2004's 'Demigod' (available through Regain Records), and will see them joined by extreme Australian outfits The Amenta and Furor.

In news of another big event scheduled for early 2006, on Fri 13 Jan, Fowler's Live will be host to the Adelaide leg of the To Die For Boys of Summer Tour, a tour featuring Australian bands Parkway Drive, Carpathian and The Getaway Plan, as well as American visitors Evergreen Terrace. The show will be all-ages; doors open at 7:30 pm.

On Sat 14 Jan, Sydney melodic progressive power metallers Transcending Mortality will be joining local bands Raven Black Night, The Loving Tongue, Quasar and One Step Beyond for the second Festival of Power. More details on this as I get them. A reminder that Transcending Mortality have some MP3s available on their website; go to www.transcendingmortality.com. And on the subject of another band on the bill for this show, The Loving Tongue will be doing a show in Melbourne at Screamers Nightclub with locals The Eternal and Synthetic Breed.
