 | Parkway Drive + Her Nightmare, Mourning Tide, Stronghold Fowler's Live, Wed 19 Oct
For as long as I live, I shall always rue and lament weeknight gigs. Running from work to a show is never fun, and I was so keen to catch all of Stronghold but alas, time restraints prevented me from catching the very start of their set. Many local people have been talking them up, and with good reason too: I still witnessed the band overcome technical problems with their equipment and blow the entire room away, almost inciting a riot amongst their hometown crowd towards the end of their blistering performance. Mourning Tide, on the other hand, took a while to win the crowd over but quickly brought the punters in with their incredible sound - I'd like to see other bands pull off some of the guitar solos these guys did. It's easy to get up and just thrash out some loud guitars and screams in front of a crowd, but to really capture their attention with something different: that's an accomplishment.
Her Nightmare took to the stage quickly and were off again all too soon, leaving the crowd a little disappointed and thirsty for more. Their appetites were soon taken care of when Parkway Drive eventually came out to deliver a faultless set that got the entire room moving. While it's impossible to articulate every amazing moment of their performance, one thing is clear from Parkway shows: this band really enjoy their time on the stage. Encouraging dancing and general craziness and offering the microphone to fans at the front, vocalist Winston McCall could barely wipe the grin off his face the entire show. And let's face it, neither could the fans.
With the show selling out so quickly, Parkway's popularity is undeniable. But fear not: I'm sure they'll be back again in the not-too-distant future.
