Tales Of Desire.
There's light at the end of the Tunnel Of Love in Adelaide.
Late on a weekend afternoon on the phone from Sydney, former
Adelaide gal Stella Delight is testament to her name - absolutely
delightful.
Quietly spoken, humble, and with thoughtful consideration with each answer she offers, it is hard to picture the mother of daughter Lotus as winner of Slit magazine's centerfold of the year, and how she will appear on stage in the show she is helping to bring to Feast.
"King troupe. Girl on girl femme action. A taste of kink. Bottoms, breasts, bulges and flesh. Cock-grabbing kings. Leather," are some of the descriptions she uses to paint a picture of the collaborative event.
Stella is one of three women who are Grind From Behind, a new venture with their origins in performing at various parties and events in Sydney and previously Adelaide. Their Feast show is 'Tales Of Desire In The Tunnel Of Love' which covers more than the usual number of entendres for a cabaret show, and it brings together ten performers and three filmmakers - some Adelaide-based and some former Adelaideans now living in Sydney and Cairns - for a for a first time "visually beautiful" showcase of short performances.
"We are keen to be creating an invitation across gender and sexuality identity," said Stella.
"Performing gives us a way of exploring and celebrating the diversity of expressions around our own identities or genders. There's a strong presence of drag, and for some drag is a performance and for others it is a gender expression."
The concept for the show was devised earlier this year, and when the themes for Feast 05 were revealed Stella was delighted at how perfectly the show fit family, fetish and philosophy. For her, it's about her own connection with her daughter, and the chosen family amongst performers involved. On fetish, some are new to it while others are familiar with expressing fetish in private or public forums. The philosophy surrounds the journey of putting on a performance when none of the group has done anything on this scale.
Stella agreed that it all sounds very personal. "To do something that is unfunded and non professional, where we need to be driven by our own motivation and desire to show off and to push ourselves," she reflects.
"And to hope that it has plenty to offer to an audience hungry for pleasure-driven performance." 'Tales Of Desire...' comprises short tales of restless desire... for two shows only.
Important audience note: no scary MC's and no crowd participation.
