Delusions Of Grandchildren
Bad Cop Bad Cop
Screamfeeder have never looked like they are going to be claiming a number one in the charts, nor does it look like they care. However, as evident in their 'Singles And More' album of last year, they manage to regularly release great alternative rock. 'Delusions Of Grandchildren' is another example of this musical reliability: not every track is solid gold, but Screamfeeder manage far more hits than misses.
The title track of this seven track mini-album is bizarre yet appropriate.
Its complex windstorm of fuzzed guitars underpin Tim Steward's simple
vocal melody. Screamfeeder's more typical indie rock sound can be
found in the likeable single Blue which starts slowly (complete
with dog barks) then kicks in with the a verse that plays it straight.
It also contains a dangerously catchy chorus and vocal harmonies while
Steward reminds us that "some days there's no explaining why you feel
blue".
Summer Rat sees Kellie Lloyd back on the keyboards adding her
much loved addition to the recent Screamfeeder sound, but on this
occasion without any bass. The only really low point is Lloyd's unsettlingly
sweet version of the schmaltzy Cyndi Lauper song Time After Time.
Apart from this 'Delusions Of Grandchildren' is sure to keep Screamfeeder's
fans content as they wait for the next full album release.
