 |  Clue To KaloOne Way, It's Every Way Mush/Spunk!/Inertia Recorded between our fair town and the big smoke of Brooklyn, New York, 'One Way, It's Every Way' is the strongest work yet from the foremost exponent of Adelaide's world-famous "close-knit electronic scene", Clue To Kalo. Sure, Adelaide may be caught unaware that it even houses such a scene, but the internationally famed Mark Mitchell (no, not Con the Fruiterer; we're talking a tall, skinny guy here), who for all intents and purposes is Clue To Kalo, is promoting our fine village across the globe. And, to be honest, I could not think of anyone more suited to do so. Recorded essentially by mashing bits of instrument noises together on a laptop, tweaking the frequencies, adding effects and then firing syncopated vocals on top of them (then tweaking the frequencies and adding a few more effects), 'One Way, It's Every Way' straddles the bridge between indie and electronic music. I imagine it's got just enough of both to get everybody excited. Sure, I can't figure out what he's doing through this album. In fact, that's probably part of the appeal of this record - when I listen to a guitar album, I spend quite a bit of time processing how they play their guitars, what gear they might use, and so on ad nauseum. I don't have a clue what Mitchell has done, which means I can just appreciate it for what it is. And it is damn fine. Styles come and go, tempos and time signatures float in front of you like clouds, melodies ride in and out as if on a country drive. The world of Clue To Kalo exists somewhere up in the sky, far above our natural world. Sit back, and take it in. I'm sure you'll get something out of it.  | |
