Puffio Theatro.
This is the show which toured England to enormous success and acclaim, and the State Theatre Company of South Australia is bringing 'Bombshells' to the Dunstan Playhouse. Starring local Adelaide girl Caroline O'Conner, who plays six women throughout the show - from a mother of three to a cabaret artiste, 'Bombshells' is the story of the women and the pressures in their lives. Showing in Adelaide from Wed 5 Oct.
And another first for Adelaide: Australia's only gallery focussing
on Black&White photography only. The gallery has just opened
on Unley Road and currently hosts the work of 27 Adelaide based
photographers. Over the coming months the gallery is hoping
to expand and incorporate works from other internationally recognised
photographers.
All new Film-makers: 'Raw Nerve', the national short film initiative for first time film-makers is coming up in 2005/06. Raw Nerve is a project of Screen Development Australia and the Australian Film Commission and gives six film-makers the chance to make a work of any genre up to 7 mins long. For application forms visit www.mrc.org.au and make sure they're submitted by Mon 31 Oct.
Goodbye Adelaide, Hello Argentina! Adelaide based cross-cultural
performing arts company Parallelo have teamed up with Argentinian
arts group Agencia Cultura Cordoba in a co-production soon to
tour Argentina. Already, two members of the group have flown
over and are preparing for the world premiere due later this
month.
Nile St Port Adelaide is the home of the exceedingly clever and interesting Vitalstatistix Theatre Co, and beginning on Tues 18 Oct is their new production, 'Checklist For An Armed Robber', written by Vanessa Bates and directed by Maude Davey. The play is based on reported versions of two events that occurred on successive days in October 2002: in Moscow a group of Chechen rebels invade the Dubrovka Theatre, taking the audience hostage; and in Newcastle, NSW a young man fails in an attempted armed hold-up of a small bookshop. 'Checklist For An Armed Robber' looks at the threads which connect the two stories, and features Adelaide actors Astrid Pill, Netta Yashchin, Nathan O'Keefe and Roman Vaculik.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the city Matt Byrne Media goes 'The
Full Monty' with the stage show which was a smash hit film.
The big-hearted stage adaptation of the movie will play Goodwood's
Mayfair Theatre (Goodwood Institute) from Fri 14 Oct, and then
at Elizabeth's Shedley Theatre from Thurs 10 Nov. In terms of
action the show has been shifted from the English town of from
Sheffield to the American steel town of Buffalo.
As it's a small venue and tickets sell quite fast - not to mention that the performances start from tomorrow night, The Bakehouse have announced a $10 ticket offer for 'The Stronger' and 'sMacbeth'. This is a darkly comic night presented by Queenbitchery Theatre.

sludge from all over the nation (and a few international entries),
both nights will now have different programs of high quality
low brow entertainment, with doors open at 7.30pm on both evenings.

killers, sick cartoons, twisted animations, bad taste nasties,
and an industrial bin load of celluloid sludge... pre-buy tickets

Up at the Pepper Street Arts Centre (top of Magill Road) they're
celebrating the 10 year milestone with a retrospective exhibition
and slide show. The exhibition will be showcasing works by long
standing artists and others across a long range of artforms,
this exciting event demonstrates the breadth of creative activity
of the last 10 years.
This year the '[X]periment Design Symposium' is being held in
Adelaide from 20-23 Oct; that's awfully close. For the latest

The next work up at the Holden St Theatres is David Hines provocative
'Bondage', starring Martha Lott, who plays this one woman show
as Liz, and it's her insight into the world of prostitution
as seen through the eyes of a prostitute from Sydney's Kings
Cross. Mostly Liz tries to understand the one thing that baffles
her more than anything else... men. 'Bondage' is directed by
well known actor Don Barker, with lighting by Lorraine Wheeler,
and opens on Wed 19 Oct in The Arch.
'Between The Worlds' is a modern day re-telling of Shakespeare's
classic tragedy 'Romeo And Juliet' through the eyes of young
people with a disability. Using song, dance and the commentary
of Rap, a blind prophet, 'Between The Worlds' is energetic and
revolutionary music-theatre in the world of disability culture,
presented at the Helen Reid Hall, Walford Anglican School For
Girls for a limited season from Thur 13 to Sat 15 Oct. Artistic
Director Pat Rix has collaborated with Jeanne Calvit of Interact
Theater, Minneapolis and brought together an exceptional production
team which includes Aidan Munn, choreographer, and Catherine
Campbell as vocal coach.
8 Arty things to do in Adelaide this fortnight...
1.
Down at the The Parks Arts & Functions Complex school holiday events are in swing, including holiday family film screenings... on Wed 5 Oct it's 'Pooh's Heffalump Movie' (sessions: 10:30, 12:30 & 2:30), and on Wed 12 Oct it's 'Madagascar' (same sessions). Tickets are dead cheap.

The 16th Tamworth Fibre Textile Biennial is exhibiting now over
three rooms, showcasing current Textile works of urban and regional
artists. Also included in the exhibition is Dorothy Erickson's
'Homage To Klimt', a series of jewel-like paintings inspired
by the work of Austrian artist Gustav Klimt. Gerry Wedd showcases
his ceramics collection in the Auditorium. Exhibitions run until
13 Nov. At JamFactory Contemporary Craft and Design.

The Australian Ballet Company are bringing to Adelaide a spectacular re-telling of the classic 'Sleeping Beauty'. Created by Graeme Murphy, Janet Vernon and Kristian Fredrikson, the re-interpretation of a much-loved classic is set to a score by Tchaikovsky. The storyline is based around two fairies and the possibility of their kingdom being doomed to eternal darkness and, of course, Sleeping Beauty and her Prince. Showing at the Festival Theatre from 4-8 Oct.

University of Adelaide Theatre Guild has taken a big step forward
in presenting Joe Orton's 'Entertaining Mr Sloane', a play for
those who like their comedy black. Directed by Geoff Brittain,
'Entertaining Mr Sloane' plays in the Little Theatre at Adelaide
Uni from Tues 18 Oct.

On Sat 8 Oct the Adelaide Chamber Singers are performing 'Dreaming
Da Vinci'- music by Leonardo's contemporaries. The music performed
is said to have once "moved and inspired Da Vinci".

The Elder Conservatorium Evening Concert Series continues in on Sat 15 Oct with Handel's magnificent oratorio Israel In Egypt, performed in Elder Hall and featuring the Elder Conservatorium Chorale, Adelaide Voices and the Elder Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Carl Crossin, Choral Director.

The Kino film group is having their next screening night on
Thurs 6 Oct at Garage, so that's just the place to be to see
new cinematic work from Adelaide practitioners, and to hook
up with like minded folk.
