Prize Frenzy™!
It's been a painful fortnight at dB Magazine as Frenzor™, the terrifying dragon-beast that controls Prize Frenzy™ like some sort of demented puppet master, has been recording his debut album in the layout room. It's proved extraordinarily disruptive, not least because he's the size of several angry, scaly, fire-belching Volkswagons piled atop one another, and also because his singing voice is akin to the sound of thousands of kittens being fed through through a paper shredder, mixed with a sub-bass hum that can destroy a man's skull. His choice of material is also leaving dB Magazine open for a series of copyright infringement lawsuits, since certain publishing companies might take issue with tracks like That's What Frenzor™s Are For, Are "Frenzor™s" Electric? and It's Raining Frenzor™. God knows what he'll call the thing ('The Glittering Prize Frenzy™'? 'Box Frenzor™"?), but you can enquire when you call 8231 0881 at 1pm on Fri 7 Oct and ask politely for your selection of the following:
1. You like the looks of those fellows on the front cover and you've read Nina Bertok's interview in this glorious issue of dB Magazine, so you'll want to get along to Parkway Drive's show at Fowler's Live on Wed 19 Oct. And we have double passes on offer, thanks to Resist.
2. Or maybe you want to get along to see Faker, having read Ann Marie Sosnowski's interview with the lads? We've got three doubles to their Enigma Bar show on Sat 8 Oct, thanks to EMI.
3. Ms Bertok also gets the low down from The Butterfly Effect, who return to the Adelaide UniBar on Sun 16 Oct: we have one double pass to grab for, thanks to Roadshow Music.
4. Cassie Hilditch quizzes Wolf & Cub about their imminent superstardom and the launch of their brand new Steal Their Gold single at Jive on Fri 7 Oct: and we have two doubles to the show, thanks to Remote Control
5. Decoder Ring play their first ever headline show in Adelaide on Thurs 13 Oct at Fowler's Live: read Eddie Chan's interview in this issue, the grab one of two doubles to the show thanks to the band.
6. Or maybe you'd like to grab the Finn Brothers tribute album 'She Will Have Her Way' (which Ben Revi reviews in this very issue)? We have copies of that very CD, thanks to EMI.
7. Perhaps you're intrigued by the thought of 'A Thing Called Snake'? You're in luck - we have three doubles to the performance at the Space Theatre at 8pm on Fri 14 Oct, courtesy of Adelaide Festival Centre.
8. Sophie Koh chats with Andrew P Street about her debut album 'All The Pretty Boys', and Shock celebrate this meeting of the minds with three copies of that very disc.
9. Pete Murray and Wade Howland get along like the proverbial house on fire - and you can warm yourself by the crispy heat of their conversation in this issue, then grab a copy of Mr Murray's 'See The Sun' thanks to SonyBMG.
10. The nice folks at Queenbitchery think you'd be most entertained by their double bill of the new play 'sMacbeth' (by local playwright Finn Kruckemeyer) and Strindberg's 'The Stronger' at the Bakehouse Theatre from Fri 7 Oct to Sat 15 Oct (Tues-Sat): there's three doubles up for grabs: choose your night, we'll send you along.
11. John Legend charms our boy Leo Verona in this issue, and his sweetly soulful sounds will charm you just as much when you grab a copy of his 'Get Lifted' album, thanks to SonyBMG.
Online Only Frenzy™!
Even the Frentron6000™ is impressed with local boys Pharaohs: so much so that he scoured the earth for three copies of their brand new Broken Arm/Panic Stations 7" single. All you have to is email andrew@dbmagazine.com.au and be one of the first three to answer the following questions:
1. What band was Dan Crannitch originally in?
2. What's Pharaohs' debut CDEP called?
3. What Egyptian queen is considered "The last of the Pharoahs?"
