Dance News.
China is getting hard on Ravers after the major Chinese newspaper reported 1,000 ravers attending a recent 'Wild Dancing Party' on the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall left behind litter including beer bottles, while some even urinated against the Great Wall. The newspaper towed the typical party line, condemning the decline of civilisation, including even Paul Oakenfold from when he played on the wall in 2003. I'm glad that Adelaide has a variety of news sources that don't just tow the party line... well, for music anyway...
Adventure into the heart of the city for an Adventure at Earth,
brought to you by the Enchanted Crew on Sat 10 Sept. The lineup's
pretty extraordinary, starting with d'n'b (and acting!) legend
Goldie, Subfocus, MC Lowqui and Banga Matt alongside Will E
Tellm, Ajax and Blanco with locals MPK, Devious, Noddy, Mark
7, Adrian V, Oddy, Snoozy, Harass, D Jon, H-bomb and Banshee
with MCs Rudeboy and Pase. Early bird tickets for Enchanted
will be available from the venue
The people who organised Soda Rooms' Bedroom Ball Breakers DJ comp have a new opportunity for DJs to get out there and get heard. The Comp will cover all styles (except r'n'b) and will be held at Black Cat Night Club, starting Sat 16 Sept. To enter the competition or get more info, email your name, style, and contact details (including nobile number) to lockdown@beagle.com.au. Note that DJs with club residencies, regular paying DJ gigs or are under the age of 18 will not be accepted.
Trance your friggin' brains out at Heaven's Chemistry on Thurs
10 Sept as 4-Strings and DJ Nervous blow your brains and speakers
alongside Adelaide's best Trance jocks.
Due to unforeseen difficulties with immigration procedure, the Hip Hop All Stars Tour featuring Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane and Kurtis Blow has been postponed until October. The promoter apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused. All presale ticket holders will receive a full refund, or if you hold onto them they're valid for the new show dates, which you can find out as soon as we do!
Attempting to capture the old school excitements of raving,
No Nonsense Noise and Ruff n Tuff proudly present Pressure Point,
an all ages show at a hidden location on Sat 17 Sept! The massive
line up includes rave supremo Karim alongside Rob Gee and James
Nardi, plus Adelaide's premier local DJ line up. More details
to be up on RaveAdelaide.net
As a legendary dancer in the Chicago underground scene, Miss Honey Dijon was exposed to the true pioneers of the house such as Ron Hardy, Andrae Hatchett and of course, the legendary Frankie Knuckles, so expect an exhilarating experience from this fine lady of dance at Electric Circus on Fri 16 Sept.
I've seen this line up get bigger and better over the past months,
and it's finally here, and with Method Man, Redman, DJ Kool,
DJ Premier, Godfather Of Noize (Rahzel and DJ JS-One), who wouldn't
be Buggin'? Each of these performers would be awesome individually,
but to have them all at the same gig is truly phenomenal. Buggin'
is set to take place at the Shores on Sun 18 Sept, and this
hip-hop super fest is one that I definitely won't be missing!
Adelaide is continuing to heat up over the coming months: Blind is coming up soon (check the interview in these very pages) and that same weekend one of the greatest breaks acts hits Adelaide - the Drummatic Twins. Then the likes of Hybrid, Ed Rush and Optical are coming up, plus a heap more, so keep watching this page for more info! I love Adelaide in Spring!
But again we leave on a sad note. Everybody from The Beatles
to through to The Neptunes has used the Moog synthesiser, and
it's inventor Dr Robert Moog has been likened to guitar pioneers
Les Paul and Leo Fender as one of the fathers of modern music.
His invention revolutionised how music was created and played.
Sadly Robert Moog passed away aged 71 on Sun 21 Aug. He will
be remembered through anyone who plays electronic music.
