+ The Scare, Later That Night
Adelaide Unibar, Thurs 18 Aug
Despite
my hatred of the Adelaide Unibar, I’m hereby proclaiming this was
an amazing show, one of those times you forget all your worries and
cares and just have a damn good time.
Later That Night was first up for the evening in all their guitar-wielding glory and were very well received by the large crowd that had come to the front. Their vocalist sounded amazing, mixing an excellent singing voice with a sort of higher pitched scream, instead of the usual low growl bands seem to have a lot these days.
I was as excited to see The Scare as I was the headline band - and for me they almost overshadowed the main attraction for the evening. They are without a doubt one of the best sounding, best dressed, most underrated young Australian bands around right now. It’s such a disappointment that, the last couple of times I’ve seen them, half the crowd haven’t really quite grasped how amazing they are. Perhaps they need to play some shows to more open-minded punters, but their blend of melody and mayhem is incredible and while they managed to get more than a few people moving, a lot of people still didn’t know what to make of it all.
Alexisonfire, however, had the whole room moving from the second they
came out and are definitely one of the most energetic bands I’ve seen
of late. Predictably opening with Accidents and blasting their
way through a variety of their material including personal favourite
44. Calibre Love Letter, White Devil and "Hey, It’s
Your Funeral Mama". However, being a Thursday night and all, the
curfew for noise soon approached and the band rushed on stage for
an encore performance of Control with a scant five minutes
to spare.
