Puff 'n' Stuff.

As Puff hopes you are aware, dB Magazine is not only home to the best magazine ever put out in the history of publishing, but it also a CIB ticketing outlet. And, as such, we had the last tickets to The Falls festival in the whole wide world - and they're now completely, utterly, entirely sold out. So if you're one of the record number of Adelaideans who are heading off to Lorne or Tasmania over New Years, well done - and if you haven't gotten your ticket yet, then sorry, no Falls for you. Unless you get one of the very, very, very limited number that they'll be releasing in December, of course. Oh, and don't try getting them on eBay or anything - the organisers are wise to that little trick and will be canceling any ticket number that's scalped. And, Puff adds, you might want to keep this whole get-your-tickets-the-second-that-you-can-or-you'll-miss-out thing in mind when Big Day Out tickets go on sale in a couple of months...

Speaking of festivals, the first of the new season of the A Day On The Green concerts has been announced, with Pete Murray (whose 'See The Sun' album is due any second now) and The Whitlams set to headline at Peter Lehmann's Winery in the Barossa on Sat 3 Dec.

There are some more CD launches coming up of which you should be aware - like Diatribe's, for example: they'll be launching their 'A Product Of Hate' CD at Le Rox (or, as it's occasionally known, The Bridgeway Hotel) on Sat 27 Aug with Tidal, Skintilla, Repture and The Stanford Prison Experiment. It's licensed all-ages and kicks off at 6.30pm, kids.

Clue To Kalo are also set to launch their brand new CD shortly. In fact, they'll be doing so on Fri 9 Sept at the Jade Monkey, with Vic Conrad & The First Third making a rare live performance in support.

Puff's delighted to see that DJ Ian Bell has found a new home since the demise of Bang!: he's now helming the new club at the Crown & Anchor, aptly named "Crank!", every Saturday night from around midnight, or once the bands wind up. That's Crank!, with all your indie favourites, keeping it real on the east sii-iide.

They might have relocated to Melbourne, but Bit By Bats will always be beloved sons of Adelaide - hence, Puff expects that their Jive show on Sat 27 Aug with Pharaohs and La Femme La Fever will be freakin' huge.

And speaking of Pharaohs, as we were mere seconds ago, be advised that their self-titled debut will be launched any tick of the clock: Puff will have all the details shortly, honest.

Hey, kids! Fancy some all-ages rock action? Get along to the Crown & Anchor on Sun 28 Aug, when Slick 46, Standard Union, Mad Batch, The Brews and the imaginatively-named Before The Fall will be doing the whole "rockin'" thing.

Melbourne's Guy Blackman is set to make his debut Adelaide visit in support of his straightforwardly-titled 'Guy Blackman In Japan' CD: catch him and good buddy Henry Wagons at the Exeter on Rundle Street on Fri 26 Aug with the No Through Road Band and the Prince Albert Hotel on Sat 27 Aug.

That Steve Poltz person is coming back to Adelaide once again for a show at Jive on Fri 26 Aug. He discovered Jewel, you know.

The always-lovely Ms Clare Bowditch is just about to release her major-label debut 'What Was Left'(she's on EMI now, don't you know?) and new single On This Side, and to celebrate she's popping into the Jade Monkey with her band The Feeding Set to do a show on Sat 27 Aug, along with Sodastream.

Stuff from Puff: this fortnight Puff turns the spotlight on those special rock stars who could be politely be described as "original", "gifted" or "batshit insane", with a special emphasis on those who like to, ahem, self-medicate. Like Courtney Love, for example, who has apparently celebrated what she recently and vociferously declared as being her new clean and sober life by, er, failing a drug test and therefore violating her parole. Her status as not-entirely-drug-free was revealed after she collapsed at a party a few weeks back and was taken to hospital, and she could be facing a year in prison and the loss of custody of daughter Frances. Again... Another classic insane person is Love's musical genius/heroin aficionado/longtime prison habitua/crazy person Arthur Lee, who's just upped his loon-quotient by having his entire backing band quit on him. The band are planning to tour together doing entire Love sets minus Lee, though they now feature a few other ex-original members, like Johnny Echols ... And what sort of roundup of insane, smacked-up rock stars would be complete without mention of Pete Doherty? Whilst his band Babyshambles were playing a London gig on Thurs 11 Aug (a rare enough occurrence, given Doherty's whimsical habit of simply not turning up), police arrived and confiscated all their equipment (although it seems it was because they were breaching noise restrictions rather than that Pete had, say, pinched them to sell, as he did with bandmate Carl Barat's equipment when they were in The Libertines). Just say no, kids.

Big Brother might have finished for the year, but our boy Steve Jones trekked all the way to Queensland to be there for the final eviction: check out his travelogue at dbmagazine.com.au, and enjoy this picture of Steve and partner Jen Cunningham with winners The Logans. That's them in the middle. And you'll be surprised to learn who took this picture...

Oxfam are holding a special fundraising gig as part of their Make Poverty History campaign, drawing attention to the need for better aid to impoverished regions around the world - and to that end, the gig touted rather playfully as "Live 3" will feature the musical talents of Poetikool Justice, Michael Dixon & The Rest and the Groove Warriors. It's all happening on at Jive on Thurs 8 Sept.

Hey, Nick Barker, why don't you just marry the Grace Emily if you love it so much? Yes, he's back once again - and heck, who can blame him? - for a show with Southpaw on Sat 27 Aug.

Taking Sides bring their rock to the Enigma Bar on Sun 4 Sept for a show with The Deadwalk, Jungle Fever and Stronghold.

Rock stars: they're a bunch of delicate little hothouse orchids, aren't they? Take Eminem, for example: he's metaphorically riding his girl's bike around the streets of East Wussington by canceling his entire European tour, citing "exhaustion and other medical issues" (later revealed as being an addiction to his medication) although Puff wasn't aware that being an adorable little baby was that serious a condition. The dates aren't expected to be rescheduled for his playfully named Anger Management 3 tour, and of course have nothing to do with the rumours that Em's quitting touring to concentrate on "producing other artists" (according to D12 bandmate Proof), which Puff interprets as meaning "pressing pretty flowers in his book of special memories". Similarly Ryan Adams, well known for his staunchly pro-onstage-sookiness policies, has thrown a pre-emptive dummy spit and cancelled his US tour with The Cardinals because he's "ill" or, as Puff assumes, is "sulking in his room", while the Transplants have pulled their upcoming UK tour and all future touring plans, including their US double-header with Pennywise, because frontman Tim Armstrong is "ill" (read: "has a very special tea party to plan with Mr Elephant, Miss Pretty Princess and Fuzzy Bearikins").

Of course, maybe Ryan, Tim and Em are right to put on their jim-jams and snuggle under their blanky: Madonna got a very special 47th birthday present in the form of a broken collarbone, broken hand and three cracked ribs after being thrown from a horse, while Josh Homme has just had knee surgery after tearing his meniscus during the Queens Of The Stone Age's recent let's-not-go-to-Adelaide Australian tour, proving that Puff's eerie powers are as strong as ever (so you'd better watch out, Dave Grohl: add an Adelaide Foo Fighters date, or Puff's got a voodoo doll with your name on it). At least The Kaiser Chiefs aren't letting something as petty as torn ankle ligaments slow them down: lead singer Ricky Wilson tore his foot up a treat onstage in Portugal, but played the band's UK and European festival dates on crutches over the weekend. However, they all pale in comparison with Marc Cohn, who has followed up his 1991 hit Walking In Memphis by being shot in the head by a man attempting to carjack his tour van. Unbelievably, he survived (the bullet hit him in the temple but didn't piece his skull) and looks set to recover completely. Meanwhile Edwyn Collins, late of Orange Juice and solo star thanks to A Girl Like You, has returned home after six months in hospital thanks to two brain haemorrhages. According to a post on his website he's feeling "fine", which is clearly a different "fine" to anything Puff's familiar with...

Gentle Ben & His Sensitive Side have a new album just about ready to release, so the best thing to do would be to pop over to the Grace Emily on Sun 28 Aug and hear all the songs that will be on it. La Femme La Fever will also be a-doing the do.

Gyroscope have also got a new album in, as they say, "the can" and so they're doing a quick pre-release lap of the country to make sure people are aware: and your Gyroscope knowledge can be exponentially increased by being at the Enigma Bar on Fri 2 Sept, where they'll be playing with The Hot Lies.

The very day that the next issue of dB Magazine comes out - which scientists have chosen to label "Wed 7 Sept" - is the day that Fowlers Live plays host to Fozzy, the metal outfit fronted by wrestling celebrity Chris Jericho. Puff likes to let you know these things early.

Another thing of which you should probably be aware is that Spoon will be playing at Fowlers Live on Sat 10 Sept (remember that freakingly jaunty song The Way We Get By that came out a few years back? That's them). You might want to grab your tickets now, incidentally.

Pinguino might have vanished from Adelaide's live scene some time back, but several of the members have kept the indie-pop flame alive, absorbed some members of Brer Mouse and rechristened themselves People Before Structures - and they'll be saying a rock'n'roll hello to Adelaide at the Jade Monkey on Thurs 1 Sept, along with British Speedway Disaster.

Epicure are making a great big return to the touring calendar with new single Tightrope Walker (from the upcoming 'Main Street' album) and a gig at the Governor Hindmarsh with Jen Cloher & The Endless Sea and the ever-perky Cookie Baker.

Speaking of the mighty Gov, their regular Local Anaesthetic shows are ticking along nicely each Thursday and Saturday night, with the likes of Special Patrol's Myles & Damo and Skye Yuill (Thurs 25 Aug), The Dairy Brothers and their hairy alter-egos The Beards (Sat 27 Aug), Dexter Jones and The Beggars (Thurs 1 Sept) and Spirit Of Alondre (Sat 3 Sept).

Butterfingers are coming to spread the love at Adelaide UniBar on Sun 4 Sept, along with Bluejuice and Snap To Zero.

Oh, come on: you can't seriously want more, can you? Look at all the stuff that's happening - and you're already running the risk of missing it, unless you...
