Prize Frenzy™!
When dB Magazine first outsourced the entire Prize Frenzy™ side of our operations to a hideous immortal hell beast with an unquenchable hunger for the souls of all humankind, we were perhaps a little too focussed on the bottom line. Sure, Frenzor™ is definitely cheaper (although, having checked the details of the Coalition's proposed new Industrial Relations legislation, there's actually not much in it) but it's offset by certain other expenses, which have been mainly funerary in nature. That said, he does good work, as evidenced by the list of things outlined below. Just ring 8231 0881 at 1pm on Fri 26 Aug and request your slice of the following:
1. The mighty rock'n'roll juggernaut that is Shihad is sweeping through this city of ours with Cog on Sun 4 Sept, and you could be at Heaven with the boys by grabbing one of the double passes that Aloha Management have so kindly put aside for us. And read Nina Bertok's cover story in this issue!
2. Andrew P Street reckons that Okkervil River's 'Black Sheep Boy' is just about the best thing he's heard in 2005 - and you'll concur when you grab yourself a copy of this issue's 'We Liked It And You Will Too', thanks to the good people at Low Transit Industries.
3. Ann Marie Sosnowski gets the good oil from After The Fall on the subject of their brand new 'Always Forever Now': and we have five copies of said CD sitting in the to-be-won pile right now thanks to FMR.
4. The Panics tell Eddie Chan all about their new album 'Sleeps Like A Curse' and Mad Dog Publicity would like you to hear said album - which would explain the three copies that we have here.
5. Or maybe you'd like to see The Panics in full rock mode at the Adelaide UniBar on Fri 26 Aug? We've got three doubles to the show, thanks again to Mad Dog Publicity.
6. Thunderbox Carbunkle & The Lonely Cosmonauts were so pleased with their glowing review of their self-titled CD a couple of issues back that they'd like to spread the country/roots love with a few copies to be won, thanks to the band.
7. Fancy getting along to see the rather fine sounding 'PS', as reviewed by William McGinley in this very issue? Of course you do, and we have in season doubles thanks to Communikate.
8. Jeremy Reglar chews the fat with 78 Saab about their first local gig in freakin' ages, and you can see them at Jive on Sat 3 Sept by grabbing one of three doubles, thanks to Liberation.
9. Truth Corroded have a good old chin-wag with Sam Vinall in this issue about their new 'Our Enemy Is The Weapon', and they've kindly slipped us a couple of copies for your rockin' pleasure. Cheers, lads.
10. Andrew P Street chats with Son & Daughters about their rollicking good album 'The Repulsion Box' and Remote Control think you'd enjoy it - hence the three copies they've sent our way.
11. Or maybe you want to celebrate your alternative love with EMI's new 2 CD compilation 'Alternative Love Songs', featuring the likes of Missy Higgins, Coldplay, The Dandy Warhols and Blur: we've got five copies just for you!
12. Thanks to the lovely folk at Palace Nova, we also have in-season passes for Gus van Sant's film 'Last Days', about a doomed, Kurt Cobain-eque rock star!
Online Only Frenzy™!
The Frenztron6000™ might be a simple, spacefaring supercomputer bristling with high-tech weaponry ready to rain hellish destruction on helpless humankind, but it also loves the rock. To that end, it's extracted two doubles to Shai Hulud's first (and last) Adelaide show at the Enigma Bar on Thurs 25 Aug, thanks to Resist Records. Check out Matt Redmond's article in this issue, then email andrew@dbmagazine.com.au with your answer to this staggeringly easy question: where did the band get their name? First two correct answers get the tix.
