Telepopmusik
Angel Milk
Catalogue/Capitol/EMI
Along with Air and Les Rhythm Digitales, Telepopmusik is one of the
most notable and distinctive French electronic acts. Best known for
the track Breathe (from their debut 2001 album 'Genetic World')
which has been featured in numerous TV commercials and other promotional
material, the different musical backgrounds of Stephan Haeri, Christophe
Hatier and Fabrice Dumont meld together to create their unique take
on abstract ambient electronica.
Their sophomore release, 'Angel Milk', continues where 'Genetic World'
left off. It's a collection of cool, beautiful sounds, with a great
balance of synthesised and real instruments creating a commercial-friendly
vibe without the artificial flavouring. Angela McCluskey, Deborah
Anderson and Mau share the vocal duties throughout the album and they
each give the album that little extra something. The sultry rasp of
McCluskey (Don't Look Back and Love's Almighty), the
delicate tones of Anderson (Close and Stop Running Away)
and the edge of Mau (Hollywood On My Toothpaste and Last
Train To Wherever) help create a sense of balance within the abstract
and moody productions of the album.
There are potential hits in this album that will almost certainly
reach the same level as Breathe, while the balance of musical
accessibility and intriguing sounds will not only attract new fans
but also satisfy those already in the know.
