Metal News.

On Fri 5 Aug to be precise the Enigma Bar same venue will play host to Boston-based punk rock band The Explosion, who will be commencing their first ever Australian tour right here in Adelaide.

Also on the subject of the Enigma Bar, the next War Room will be taking place there on Fri 29 July. The regular metal event's second 'Battle Royale' extravaganza, the show will feature a suitably large and impressive line-up consisting of Victorians Demonother, new addition Pantheon (who hail from Perth), and locals Embodiment 12.14, Truth Corroded, A Thousand Nightmares and Later That Night. DJs for the night include... myself. To aid in identification for those who may wish to come up and meet the man behind the column, I shall endeavour to wear something distinctive and hideously inappropriate, like a Britney T-shirt. Melbourne's Walk The Earth will sadly no longer be playing, no doubt because they have just parted ways with vocalist James Ludbrook, the band citing the usual "creative and personal differences" as the reason for the split. On a more heartening note, the group are searching for a replacement singer; if you think you might possess the necessary talents, contact the band pronto via walk_the_earth2004@hotmail.com.

Those jaded souls who find that the average metal show doesn't provide enough of a testosterone buzz may wish to double their rush by being at Le Rox/Bridgeway Hotel on Sat 30 July for the big XAW 'Trial By Combat' wrestling show. Not only will the event feature matches between Xtreme Adelaide Wrestling superstars, but local bands Skintilla and Tidal will be providing musical entertainment on the night as well.

Also on Sat 30 July, local band The Brethren celebrate the release of their new demo with a show at the Land Of Promise Hotel, with support provided by Fear & Loathing, Hanging Tree, Red Baron, Lotosoma and Defcon.

In a bit of news that's best expressed in the words of the press release: "No more lazy Sunday afternoons! Come down to the Crown & Anchor for a healthy dose of melodic hardcore grunt rock. An all ages noise bonanza featuring the explosive talents of Vars, Whoregasm and Pigsteerer. It's on Sun 31 July, 4pm 'til 9pm."

Local band The Jonestown Syndicate will be launching their new six-track EP, 'Don't Let Them Fool You... Beauty is Forever', at an all-ages joint CD launch with The Rivalry at Fowlers Live on Fri 5 Aug, with support from Through Closed Eyes, Coma Lies, The New Mutiny, Jessica In Pieces and Undermined. Doors open at 6pm.

Shai Hulud, a band taking their name from that of the giant sandworms in Frank Herbert's 'Dune' series, will soon be breaking up after some ten years in the music game. Before they call it quits, however, they will be doing their first and last Australian tour, playing a licensed all-ages show here at the Enigma Bar on Thurs 25 Aug.

Finally, a big thank you to all who heeded my plea last issue for news about upcoming shows and sent me stuff. It was very much appreciated.
