Prize Frenzy™!
Oh, it seems so easy when you're just sitting back, reading the magazine and wondering what free stuff you'd like best. Meanwhile we at dB Magazine are putting our very lives in our hands every day of the week trying to subdue Frenzor™, the gigantic ashen-hued demon whose fiery breath fuels the terrifying cycle of death and horror that is Prize Frenzy™. He's done his usual fine job of grabbing great stuff for you, the valued dB Magazine word consumer, and all you have to do is call 8231 0881 at 1pm on Fri 29 July and ask politely but firmly for your choice of the following:
1. Actually, this one's early: call as soon as you read this if you want to grab one of the two double passes to get along to The HorrorPops at the Enigma Bar on Thurs 28 July. First two people to call on Wed 27 July will snaffle 'em, thanks to Shock.
2. Everything from here on in is FRIDAY ONLY, OK? Good. Youth Group are on our cover and in our hearts and minds with the re-release of their 'Skeleton Jar' CD (they're through ultra-cool punk label Epitaph now, don't you know?) and their upcoming show at the Enigma Bar on Fri 19 Aug, and Liberation have handed over three packs containing a copy of said CD and a double pass to the show. Neat! Check out Ben Revi's interview with the 'Group this issue.
3. Eddie Chan talks to New Buffalo, aka Sally Seltmann, about her imminent Adelaide show and her new self-titled CD-EP - and Remote Control have very kindly handed a few copies over for your listening pleasure.
4. Scott Berry thinks that the new Sufjan Stevens CD 'Illinois' is pretty freakin' great, and we agree wholeheartedly. In fact, it's this issue's 'We Liked It And You Will Too' and we have a couple of copies up for grabs, thanks to Spunk!.
5. Jess Law has an illuminating chat with the Beautiful Girls about their new album 'We're Already Gone', of which the nice people at Two Fish Out Of Water have very kindly slipped us three copies.
6. Wade Howland reviews the rather ace Ross Noble 'Unrealtime' DVD in this issue, and after reading it you're going to want a copy. Handy, then, that the nice folks at ACMEC have sent us a few copies to fulfil that very desire.
7. Fancy seeing Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson unravel the futuristic secrets of 'The Island'? Sure you do, since it looks pretty great and all, and we have fistfuls of in-season passes thanks to the lovely folks at Foster Workshop PR.
8. Architecture In Helsinki are playing at Fowlers Live on Sat 6 Aug (with Clue To Calo and Belittle League), and Ben Revi gets all the goss from them in this issue. Remote Control has kindly sorted us out for three double passes to the show, because they care.
9. Powderfinger's Darren Middleton chats it up with our girl Nina Bertok in this issue about his other band Drag, who've just released their debut album 'The Way Out' - and we conveniently have five copies of said album, thanks to UMG.
Online Only Frenzy™!
Lovers of ABC-screened teen dramas will be in hog heaven with the release of the second volumes of 'Degrassi Jr High' and 'Press Gang' on DVD. The Frenztron6000™ has persuaded Force Entertainment that it'd be in their best interests to cough up three packs containing both discs. All you have to do is send andrew@dbmagazine.com.au an email answering the following Degrassi/Press Gang questions:
1. What was the name of Joey, Snake and Wheels' band in 'Degrassi Jr High'?
2. Who did ultra-cool UK actor Charlie Creed-Miles play in the first series of 'Press Gang'?
3. What was Stephanie Kaye's campaign slogan when running for Degrassi student election?
First three correct answers get the booty!
