Metal News.

First up, apologies to anyone under the age of 18 who turned up to the Winter Mosh show at The Gov on Fri 24 June, and found that the event was 18+ instead of all-ages, as earlier stated. I was notified of the change, but unfortunately not in time to pass the news on in this column.

On Sat 2 July, there will be a show at Jive featuring local metal bands Double Dragon, Impartial and Seconds To Fall..., as well as NSW outfit The Valley and local punk band Standard Union. Looks like an interesting combination.

And in an announcement of another upcoming show that's probably best expressed in the band's own words, "After a brief absence due to fractured bones and sex change operations, Lapdancer are back and will be playing a show at Jive on Hindley St [on] Fri 8 July with Insect Seeking Technology, Jika (Vic) and Qantum Kaos."

Exactly a week later, fellow locals A Red Dawn launch their debut EP, 'This Urban Conflict', at Earth (the old Downtown on Hindley St), with support from Tidal, Double Dragon and 8th Degree on Fri 15 July.

July will see the release of Australian band H Block 101's latest offering, 'The H Block 101 Tapes 1996-99', on Resist Records. This release will consist of the group's 'A Voice In The Crowd' EP, the long out of print 'No Room For Apathy' CD, and its 'Synergy' EP, as well as eight bonus tracks. To coincide with its release, Kwala and Black Label Skateboards will be presenting the first Australian screenings of 'Who Cares - The Duane Peters Story'; this will be shown here at an all-ages show on Sat 16 July at the Enigma Bar, musical entertainment provided by the H-Block lads with The Jerks and The Backseat Romeos.

To promote its sophomore release, 'Never Take Friendship Personal', metal band Anberlin will be undertaking a national tour with Antiskeptic. Adelaide will be the first city on this tour, the above two bands playing an all-ages show at the Enigma Bar on Fri 22 July.

Swedish old-school death metal band Insision, whose releases include 'Beneath The Folds Of Flesh' and 'Revealed And Worshipped' (both available on Earache/Wicked World), will be doing a short four-city tour of Australia in July, and happily, Adelaide will be one of the cities in which they play. The group perform here on Sun 24 July at the Crown and Anchor Hotel with Sydney's Infernal Method and local supports Mythica, Juggermath and Slaughter Thou. As was the case with the recent Australian tour of labelmates Hate Eternal, the Adelaide show looks like being the only all-ages one on Insision's tour, so please support it. The show starts at 4 PM, so be sure to get there early.

Danish band The HorrorPops - who are coming to Australia after touring the US in July as part of the Vans Warped Tour - do a show at the Enigma Bar on Thurs 28 July. Described as "a straight up rock'n'roll band with their roots buried deep in 80's new wave, old-school punk, and 50's rockabilly", they're renowned for putting on chaotic and unpredictable shows.

Monthly metal event The War Room puts on its second 'Battle Royale' extravaganza on Sat 30 July, the event's mammoth line-up comprising Melburnians Walk The Earth And Demonother (the latter band featuring current members of Mindsnare, as well as ex-members of Fallout), and locals Embodiment 12.14, Truth Corroded, 1000 Nightmares and Later That Night.

Finally, congratulations to local metal musician Justin Wood, member of extreme outfits Hatred Slave, One Step Beyond and Slaughter Thou (as well as the elusive Freak Fuck Fest), has become engaged to his girlfriend Kim. In a touching and unforgettable scene, Wood proposed to Kim near the end of Hatred Slave's set at Jive on Fri 10 June; to the delight and applause of the audience, she said yes.
