Metal News.
Fri 17 June sees the local launch of Australian metal compilation 'Underearthed 3' at the Enigma Bar (not Jive, as stated in the previous column). Playing at the show will be Raven Black Night (whose new release, 'Choose The Dark', has apparently been selling quite well in Germany), One Step Beyond, Imminent Psychosis and guest band Obsidian Aspect, a local death metal outfit featuring one of the members of Mythica in its line-up.
Also on the Fri 17 June, local band Tidal does a show at the
Old Jail in Mt Gambier; this will be followed by a show at the
King Craig Hotel in Naracoorte, another centre in the state's
Southeast, on Sat 18 June. In other Tidal news, the band features
on the soundtrack of 'Dual Roost: The Movie', a new DVD "about
the members of the quad riders of SA, riding and racing at some
of the best tracks and trails in Australia." 'Dual Roost...'
is available from selected South Australian and Victorian bike
shops, and can also be obtained by going to www.47industries.com.
Melbourne grindcore band Fuck... I'm Dead play their first show here for the year at the next War Room on Fri 24 June at the Enigma Bar; supporting them will be new grind outfit Wasted Gods (featuring members of Truth Corroded), Meat Wallet and The New Mutiny. Fuck... I'm Dead, who are currently working on material for a new CD, have a release, 'Bring On The Dead Motherfucker' out on American label Razorback, and have also done a split CD with a US band Engorged; hopefully both things will have been getting them lots of exposure overseas. For more on the War Room, including info on the event's Battle Royale show in July, go to www.thewarroom.vze.com.
Also on Fri 24 June, two local bands, The Stanford Prison Experiment
and Torn From Rest, will be doing their first all-ages shows
at the Underground; headlining the event will be In Daylight
Tragedy.
And in news of yet another gig on the Fri 24 June, The Governor Hindmarsh Hotel will be host to an all-ages show that night called 'Winter Mosh'; bands on the bill for this one will be Murder Hill (the local band formerly known as Cloth Tape), Double Dragon, Deadlock, Lycosa, The Jonestown Syndicate and Skintilla.
On the subject of Skintilla, this band will also be doing a
show on the following night, albeit in Melbourne; accompanying
them at that one will be fellow locals Diatribe. And on the
subject of Diatribe, that band's new album, 'A Product Of Hate',
will be available nationally on Mon 4 July through MGM Distribution.
The dates for this year's annual Hardcore festival in Sydney draw inexorably closer, the event to be held on Fri 1 Jul (all-ages) and Sat 2 Jul (18+ only) at the Gaelic Club in Surry Hills. Australia's premier hardcore event, Hardcore turns five this year, its headlining act this time around Byron Bay's Parkway Drive, who will be playing at both shows. Also playing both days will be Melbourne's Hitlist (playing their final ever shows), Behind Crimson Eyes and Carpathian. Check out www.resistrecords.com for more info.
Later in July (Fri 15 July, to be precise), local band A Red
Dawn launch their debut CD-EP, 'This Urban Conflict', at Earth
(the old Downtown on Hindley St), with support from Tidal, Double
Dragon and 8th Degree.
Later still next month, Danish band The HorrorPops - who are coming to Australia after touring the US in July as part of the Vans Warped Tour - do a show at the Enigma Bar on Thurs 28 July. Described as "a straight up rock n' roll band with their roots buried deep in 80's new wave, old-school punk, and 50's rockabilly", they formed in 1996 when its two founding members, Patricia (singer/guitarist of Peanut Pump Gun) and Kim Nekroman (singer/bassist of Nekromantix) met at the German Popkom festival; subsequently adding guitarist Geoff Kresge (ex-Tiger Army/AFI), drummer Niedermeierex, and "evil hardcore rock go-go dancers" Mille and Kamilla. Their show looks like it might be quite an experience. A new album, 'Bring It On' (produced with the help of Bad Religion guitarist and Epitaph Records founder Brett Gurewitz), should be out in September; the band already have a release, 'Hell Yeah' (their debut), out on Hellcat/Shock.
