Holy crap, it's halfway through the year already! Where has the time gone and what the hell did I do with it? I certainly haven't saved any. Well, I guess now is as good a time as any to do my half yearly top fives!

Records:

The Herbaliser: 'Take London'
Fantastic fifth release, with some stormer hip-hop tracks, guest artists like Roots Manuva and Jean Grae alongside jazzier numbers with a hint of mischief and fun.

DJ Friendly: 'Chew The Fat!'
An inspiring mix of happy breaks and funky basslines, brilliantly mixed by Australia's best breaks export.

Busdriver: 'Fear Of A Black Tangent'
This one comes out of left field and whacks you down the field. Funky, crazy, and a slight bit off kilter, but greatly refreshing.

Gorillaz: 'Demon Days'
Alban and the crew are back, this time with Danger Mouse at the controls guiding them to a smoother, more coherent yet still distinctive sound.

Z-Trip: 'Shifting Gears'
Devoid of known blends, the king of the mashed beats presents some masterful hip-hop and some good ol' fashioned rock in this fabulous premier album.

Gigs:

Breakfastaz
'Turbine' featuring Bad Robot and Rough & Tumble
'Good Vibrations'
Inbound featuring Klute
And of course - 'The Jam' at Mojo!

There are couple of quiet weeks coming up, but with the Cabaret Festival on it gives a chance for us to go out to a different kind of groove. Plus, after the massive events of the Queens Birthday Weekend and the imminent arrival of Winter Enchanted, it's nice to have a little breather.

The June Edition of Sorted heads into the winter months after seeing off Autumn with the sublime sounds of Kasey Taylor. This month welcome two of Adelaide's best homegrown talents with house, electro, progressive, techno and breaks. After opening night guests Jude Alexander and Reelax, this month features Tim Carter and a mystery surprise guest yet to be announced on Fri 17 June at Garage.

Stealth and Plan B are proud to present Calyx vs BSE on Fri 24 June at Earth Nightclub. If you haven't heard of Calyx, then we invite you to crawl out from the rock you have been living under to check out one of the hottest producers in drum'n'bass! Hard-edged Dutch trio Black Sun Empire return to tear Adelaide apart with their 'Cruel And Unusual' album tour, along with locals Mark 7, Restless, Khem, Jason and Jury alongside Xpress, Stryke and Pase.

Plus, I mentioned the inbound shop opening last fortnight; well it opened a week late, but to glorious fanfare and it looks hot! Now d'n'b heads can do some real record shopping and not just rely on one store (not that Clinic 116 was lacking in any way, it's just nice to have some healthy competition back in Adelaide). But of course there are more DJs in Adelaide than just d'n'b heads, so we also have 618 Records, MTME, downstairs at Big Star and B Sharp. If I've missed your favourite record store, then drop me a line at funkyj@funkyj.com.
