Bleeding Through.

Bleeding ThroughIt didn't take long for Bleeding Through to become one of the most talked about groups in the hardcore/metalcore genre. Their 2003 debut album 'This Is Love This Is Murderous' catapulted them to the forefront of a thriving hardcore genre and established the band as a force to be reckoned with. They've toured relentlessly off the release, playing on every hardcore festival imaginable; Ozzfest, Hellfest, Warped Tour and Headbangers Ball.

"We're in the middle of recording right now," comments lead singer Brandon about the production of their upcoming album 'The Truth'. "It's going pretty slow but we have all the confidence in the world that the person producing the record is going to do a good job. We got Rob Caggiano [Anthrax guitarist]; he worked on the last couple of Cradle Of Filth records and 36 Crazy Fists.

"I think we stopped trying to do things we weren't good at doing and focus more on the things that worked with us and set us apart from all of the other bands, giving us that Bleeding Through sound. All in all I think it's more of a faster record. The heavier parts are heavier and there's more of them. We've always wanted to sing on our records but we haven't really had time to work on it and perfect them. With this recording we've got all the time in the world. A couple of the songs are really slow. There's going to be a bigger presence in keyboards as well. Marta has become a better keyboard played since our last album and she adds so much more to this record because she actually likes the music and gets into it."

He laughs as he recalls his chance meeting with their keyboard player. "It's actually kind of funny how we met Marta. We played a show in Seattle about two years ago at this venue that had practice rooms for bands to rehearse in. This band was playing with a crazy voice that went from death metal to singing really high and we were totally blown away by it. I'm standing by the door listening to this band practice and this girl comes out, we started talking and found out she sang in the band. So that brutal voice was coming from Marta. We hung out with her the whole night, went to a friends place and she was playing on this crappy little Casio keyboard. We were blown away, we said 'wow you play piano' and she said 'yeah I've been playing for my whole life'. So I said 'if we ever need a piano player I'll give you a call' and a month later our keyboard player quit."

Some of their live footage shows Brandon arising from a coffin and doing army rolls and flips across stage. "When I was younger, the bands that stood out the most were the ones who went out on stage and put on this massive effort to move around the whole time and keep the energy up. No one wants to see a lazy band. If you want to be a band that just stands there and plays music you may as well not play live. When I was growing up I watched bands like Strife and Ignite who went out and kicked ass; jumping and running around, their energy was up the whole time. That's a big reason why some of us go to the gym often because we really want to stay in shape. It's hard to go out there for fifty minutes a night, running around when it's hot screaming your brains out. I definitely don't want to cheat people out of their money: if they pay for a show I want to put on a show."

Brandon maintained a heavy presence in the Orange County hardcore scene, playing guitar for both Throwdown and Eighteen Visions before launching Bleeding Through. "It's cool because a few of us were a big part of what happened in the Orange County hardcore scene. There was a really dark time for us, the shows weren't doing very well and people were getting in to other things. Than we started Eighteen Visions and Throwdown, getting kids to come back to shows and lot of local bands started up. It's something I feel a lot of pride in because there are a lot of bands out there touring who came out of Orange County and made it really big. There's Thrice, Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, Eighteen Visions. There's a lot of bands who go out there and represent Orange County the best they can."

Bleeding Through play an all-ages show at the Adelaide UniBar on Thurs 9 June with Parkway Drive and Cry Murder.
