This is one very sexy album. I can almost see those broad-shouldered,
undernourished bodies on the catwalk now. I'd better write a glowing
review for Robots In Disguise's track DJ's Got A Gun for obvious
reasons; you can almost feel the floorboards shake in that one. Malente
sounds a lot like those Funk groups of the '70s except well mixed
and compressed. We Came to Party is infectious and begs audience
participation.
Appreciate is the most generous view of lust I have ever encountered.
Back To Basics has a guitar sample which could be played with
a Fender Deluxe Reverb amplifier ( the 'Twin'). Skin Tight
sounds like it could have Wah Wah Watson playing on it. The hip-hop/funk
style of Bossa For The Devil works well, while Jeremy Joshua's
track has a fat jazz guitar played with a little overdrive (probably
the only use of distortion on the album). Some funky, mid-fretboard
heroic guitar which isn't obscured by the keys is welcome relief to
my piano-dominated life (Clap Your Hands), while the slapping
bass and flute is entertaining too.
The second half of the album seems to have deeper meaning to it, with
Globalisation the theme of Nostalgia 77's track. Not at all
bad for an album designed to accompany five days of catwalk-walking.
