Dance News.
The APRA Music Awards have announced their 2005 nominees list. Celebrating Australian songwriters, the eventual winner in each category is decided based on APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) statistical data and analysis. Nominees in the 'Most Performed Dance Work' category are SA's own hip-hop superstars the Hilltop Hoods, with Infusion, Cheyne (ex-Madison Avenue), Mr Timothy and Daniel Merriweather all getting nominations.
On a more local front, the SA Dance Music
Awards will be held at the newly renovated John Difede Reception
Centre on Mon 23 May. Recognising Adelaide's outstanding talent
and contribution to dance music, not only nationwide but abroad,
this is a chance for the DJs and performers to spruce up and
let their hair down. You the punters do voting online, plus
there's more than a few industry awards for outstanding achievements,
so check this space next time for all the winners and grinners.

All this is happening at Caos Cafe on Hindley Street.

Police in Birmingham UK moved quickly to shut down a pirate
radio station after pilots complained that dance music was drowning
out instructions from air traffic controllers. The pilots landing
passenger jets reported hearing loud bursts of "garage". If
you want to know what all the hubbub is about, head to the Jam
at Mojo Fri 27 May as Grif, Trucker, Crispin and Funky J getting
up to no good playing garage, dub and breaks; although they
promise not to bring any planes crashing in on the place.
Sat 28 May sees the new kids on the block Twilight present Spectrum with DJs Djon & Skyver, Writa, Parallel, Mark 7, Stylus, Switch, Static, Del and Back Up gathering at the top of the Worldsend, set to extend the Thursday Funk deep into Sunday morning!
Earth hosts another big party with Eternal Energy on Sat 28

If you think Sundays are about winding down then forget about it, as Stylus on Sundays is about getting amped up and making the weekend go out with a bang! Every Sunday the Gilbert Street Hotel, in conjunction with Fabric Promotions, brings you Adelaide's latest chapter in Sunday night clubbing, with the best in house, electro and breaks DJs, including Tim Carter, Lachlan Pender, Jude Alexander, Ben Watt and Simon Booth. They've also got a top menu, so grab a bite and get your groove on!
And what sort of fortnight would it be without
a Moby story? Latest news is that he's instigated a scathing
attack on gay-bashing Christians this week after a visitor to
his website posted and claiming the childless superstar "wants
to turn his child gay". The Mobester (who's a practising Christian
himself, incidentally) also had a go at 'Big Oil' and the USA's
push to open up Alaskan wilds to drilling. Which is all perfectly
admirable; although one might suggest that it's a little hypocritical
to condemn oil companies and then licence one's music to sell
automobiles...
