The Soundtrack To Your Violence The Kill
The Soundtrack To Your Violence
No Escape/Independent

Despite containing fourteen tracks, 'The Soundtrack To Your Violence', by Melbourne grindcore band The Kill (an outfit formerly known as Open Wound), is a very short piece of work at only thirteen-and-a-half minutes long. As one would probably expect from this, it moves along at a blistering pace - the material dominated by flat-out guitar-playing, blast beats, and aggressive vocals - although every now and again, it does slow down and mellow out a little to give the listener a few welcome moments of respite from the preceding mayhem. Among the tracks are a cover of Napalm Death's The Kill, which The Kill rip through in just as little time (ie: about fifteen seconds) as the original group do, and a piece called This One Hurts, whose lyrics the band freely admit to plundering from the Guns N' Roses song My Michelle. The remaining twelve tracks comprise completely original material, and occasionally feature quite humorous lyrics: Fuck Emo, Tracksuit Pants Are Thrash, and Dead Babies, the last a worthy contribution to the current debate on abortion (no, not really). It's all good, mindless fun; it's just too bad it's over so quickly.
