Prize Frenzy™!

There's been some suggestion lately that winning Prize Frenzy™ has also brought with it... well, let's just say "unforseen consequences". Sure, we had an inkling that there might be some sort of diabolical force at work when we first outsourced the job of getting the prizes to a hundred foot tall winged daemon with a pitch-black heart steaming with sulphuric fumes of pure hate, but we're a busy bunch here at dB Magazine and he seemed so charming in the interview. Anyway, we don't like to throw glib phrases like "pact with the devil" or "infernal ownership of your immortal soul" or "run screaming from your burning city and scatter like gypsies to the four winds" around carelessly, but we feel we'd be professionally negligent if we didn't mention that those who ring 8231 0881 at 1pm on Fri 8 April are, in a very real sense, putting their lives in the scaled claws of a demented hell-beast fuelled by an unquenchable desire to devour their very humanity. On the other hand you also get some free stuff, so it's a real swings/roundabouts situation. Good luck!

1. Fancy getting along to see 'Drums In The Night'? Of course you do, especially after reading Alex Wheaton's cover story this issue; and as luck would have it, we have some double passes to the matinee performance at the Space Theatre at 1.30pm on Sat 16 April, thanks to Brink Productions!

2. After reading Alexis Buxton-Collins' review of Sage Francis' 'A Healthy Distrust' - which is this issue's 'We Liked It And You Will Too' - chances are you'll be thinking "Why, I'd like to hear this fascinating sounding record by this iconoclastic hip-hop artist!" Shock are totally ready for you too: we've got five copies just waiting to be won.

3. Bit By Bats are making a return to Adelaide with their new 'Let's Go Romeo' CD-EP and their new pals The Grates, both of whom speak with Ben Revi in this issue, and both of whom would like to win one of the two double passes to their Fri 15 April show at the Jade Monkey, thanks to the bands.

4. Elsewhere in this issue Ken Stringfellow talks to Eddie Chan about life in The Posies, REM, Big Star and touring solo with Even - and it's to that very show, at the Grace Emily on Thurs 14 April, that we have a few double passes on offer, thanks to Jo Wilson and Mad Dog Publicity.

5. Speedstar tell Ann Marie Sosnowski all about their upcoming tour, which should be the last time we see them for a little bit; so you'll probably want to grab one of the three doubles to their show at Jive on Sun 17 April, thanks to The Right Profile.

6. Basement Jaxx have just released a new compilation of their singles, cunningly titled 'The Singles' - and, since Leo Verona has a nice chat with them in this issue, Remote Control have kindly offered up a couple of copies. Very sporting of them.

7. James Brazel discusses all things Strapping Young Lad with drummer Gene Hoglan, and Century Media want to add to the metal in your life with a copy of the brand new SYL album 'Alien'.

8. Speaking of metal, Matt Redmond reckons that the new Judas Priest album is a mighty return to form; and you can hear why by grabbing a copy of 'Angel Of Retribution', thanks to SonyBMG.

9. Blake Lewis talks the rock with Wolfmother in this issue, and we have some double passes to their Thurs 14 April show at the Adelaide UniBar, thanks to Jo Wilson and Mad Dog Publicity.

10. Millencolin's 'Kenwood' heads back to the band's punk roots and Matt Vesley asks them all about it in this issue. Shock wish to illustrate the point, which is why they've furnished us with several copies of said album for your listening pleasure.

Online Only Frenzy™!

The Frenztron5000™'s used its cold, logical computer brain to extricate some double passes to 'Dig!', the much-praised and rather controversial Dandy Warhols/Brian Jonestown Massacre documentary, thanks to the good folks at Palace Cinema: merely send an email to andrew@dbmagazine.com.au asking politely for a double - while cunningly making reference to either a Dandys or BJM song. First entries in get to go see the film.
