Prize Frenzy™!

Canny, calendar-owning readers may have noticed that this issue of dB Magazine has come out just before Good Friday. That means that the traditional Prize Frenzy™ protocol of calling 8231 0881 at 1pm on the Friday after we hit the streets is rendered inoperative, since we'll be off doing the sort of exciting, celebrity-filled things that those who don't work in the glamorous world of street press can only fantasise about. And since our experiments in rending the very fabric of time with a mix of ancient, forbidden magic and a time machine made of Lego and children's wishes left the dB Magazine office a demon-infested fireball, we decided to switch to Plan B: Prize Frenzy™ will be held on Thurs 24 March at 1pm. Yes, we're just having it a day early. Well deduced there, Doctor Science.

Keep in mind that you're still very welcome to call on Friday: you just won't win anything, or have anyone answer the phone. But then, Prize Frenzy™'s never been just about the winning: it's also about taking part.

1. The Violent Femmes are on our cover and in our hearts - and in this magazine, chatting with Blake Lewis. They're also at Heaven on Sun 3 April and we have some double passes to said show, thanks to Feel Presents.

2. Scott Berry's pretty sure that you'd like the new Idlewild album 'Warnings/Promises', and made such a compelling argument that it was declared this issue's 'We Liked It And You Will Too'. EMI concur with this assessment, which explains why they gave us five copies for your listening pleasure.

3. Suzy Ramone reviews 'Bad Education', the new film by Spanish auteur Pedro Almodovar, in this issue and reckons you'd be well advised to see it. As luck would have it, Foster Workshop PR have slung us a whole mess of double in-season passes. Fortuitous, no?

4. Or maybe you've been seduced by the sulty sound of the salsa? La Bomba have, and approve of our alliteration to the degree that they've offered up a couple of double passes to their Easter Latino festival at the Gov on Sat 26 March.

5. Unwritten Law chat with Matt Vesley about their brand new 'Here's To The Mourning' CD, and Warners have marked the occasion with the presentation of five copies of said album for the giving away of.

6. Trans Am promises to be one of those gigs you'll kick yourself for missing, especially since they're playing with collaborators The Fucking Champs: look, just read Andrew P Street's interview in this issue, then grab a double pass thanks to Consume.

7. Intrigued about the sounds of Beck's new album 'Guero'? Well you might, and UMG have catered for just such an eventuality with a handful of copies because they're all about indulging your every whim.

8. Steve Jones and Love Outside Andromeda's Sianna Lee discuss life, love, anger and sweet, sweet revenge in this issue, and you can watch her convert said anger into music at the Gov on Sat 2 April, thanks to the nice folks in the band and at Remote Control.

9. Emema Sifa has an inspirational chat with Angelique Kidjo, who'll be bringing her blend of hopeful rhythms to the Gov on Thurs 31 March - and because the Gov love you, we've got a couple of doubles to the show.

10. Julian Cram discusses Katalyst's new mix CD 'Dusted' in this issue, and UMG think you'd dig it: read the article, then grab one of the five copies they've kindly sent our way.

11. The good people at Tsuki PR think you'd like to see 'Young Adam' (starring Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton and based on the cult novel by Alexander Trocchi) at the Nova on Sun 3 April. We tend to concur, which is why we have a huge pile of double passes to said screening.

Online Only Frenzy™!

The Frenztron5000™ has captured the true meaning of Easter by extricating double passes to both of Heaven's big long weekend club nights: Vicious on Friday 25 March (with Andy Van and Mr Timothy) and Twice As Nice on Sun 27 March (with Steve Hill and Public Domain). Just be one of the first two people to email Andrew@dbmagazine.com.au with an explanation about what Easter means to you and how it's best expressed by you're going along to shake your funky thang. Make sure you specify which event you'd like to get along to and we'll facilitate.
