The Butterfly Effect
+ Breed 77
Heaven, Sun 27 Feb

Having missed numerous opportunities in the last year or so to see The Butterfly Effect live, I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity this time, despite the Sunday night time slot.

Appearing entirely out of place in my rock-chick attire as opposed to more metal-themed clothing, I noted that despite the heaviness of the music, the crowd was, for the most part, well-behaved. It seemed everyone was there just to enjoy the bands and their music, and certainly made for an enjoyable atmosphere.

Catching the end of the Breed 77 set, I was impressed by thee twelve-string guitar playing, the switching from electric to acoustic guitar, and a bass player who seemed almost entirely out of place in the middle of the stage between the drummer at the back and his three bandmates out the front Not being a huge fan of the heavier side of rock, I can't say I was mad keen on them, but they were certainly better than simply bearable!

Next up were the Brisbane-based four piece most people had come to see. A strong performance including hit singles The Cell and One Second of Insanity brought the crowd to its feet, the moshers to the moshpit, and the crowd surfers to the top of the crowd. With drummer Ben leaving the stage a few tracks in and following one of the techies to the audience area of the venue, a few people were left wondering what was going on, but he quickly took his place on stage and the set continued on.

The soaring vocals of lead singer Clint proved their usual highlight, although the entire band played a tight set and left fans wanting more.
