Split Acoustic CD-EP Matchbook Romance/ Motion City Soundtrack
Split Acoustic CD-EP
Epitaph/Shock

It seems a current obsession of emo bands to do acoustic versions of their own songs and make them even more emotional. While some bands (like Brand New and Taking Back Sunday, whose acoustic tracks litter the internet) attack these versions with spirit, last years' 'Punk Goes Acoustic' compilation proved that sometimes the songs were recorded the way they were originally for a reason.

However, this CD-EP sees Matchbook Romance re-jig Playing For Keeps from their album 'Stories And Alibis' to remarkably good effect, moving to a new level to the angry up-tempo original, and singer Andrew Jordan rises to the challenge (something that Taking Back Sunday's vocalist Adam Lazzara didn't on their acoustic version of hit Cute Without The 'e'). This combines with a folksier, sprawling new ballad In Transit (For You) to provide a interesting look at an upcoming band. Motion City Soundtrack provide two tracks, When You're Around and Sunday Warning, two frenetic pop ditties that drip heart-felt lyrics and bounce out of the stereo like a breath of fresh air. A fine little CD-EP, a low price, and two bands to keep a watchful eye on.
