Heather Frahn
Acoustic Energy
Independent/Black Market Music
Technically speaking, Heather Frahn is far from perfect. However, what she lacks in polish, she most certainly makes up with spit; an evenly dealt balance of passion and attitude mixed with loads of confidence. Her latest CD-EP 'Acoustic Energy' is definitely aptly named.
Intuition opens with a well-metered mix of vigorously assailed guitar
and masterfully placed light percussion from Todd Telford, Frahn soon
introduces her resonant, delicately rasped and breathy vocals a few
bars later. Assuredly challenging modern ideals brought on by the
advent of technology and today's high pressure lifestyle, it segues
gently into the flimsily brushed scat of Live Learn, again
demonstrating Frahn's perceptive tug-of-war when coming to terms with
prevailing demands. Taking stock as much as it is questioning, Precious
Things is a ragged-paced inventory of one's inner-self, while
A Little is a poised look at the strength and fragility of
relationships. H.O.P.E. sums up this local artist's main ambition;
to simply make some difference, however small.
Frahn has been around the traps for over a decade since first gaining attention when only fourteen, and 'Acoustic Energy' is without doubt a big step towards greater recognition. If you don't believe me, simply pop your head in next time she's playing at a venue near you.
