Everything But The Girl Adapt Or Die: Ten Years Of Remixes Virgin/EMI
Though formed in the early 80s, Everything But The Girl did not really make a international impact until the 90s when Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt embarked on collaborations with renowned dance icon Todd Terry and trip hop pioneers Massive Attack, moving their musical direction from jazz-folk to more dance electronica. They've been an undeniable presence in dance culture ever since, creating a benchmark with dance duos, producing numerous hits and spawning beautiful remixes. This album showcases some of the more popular and rarer remixes of Everything But The Girl's hits during the last decade.
Hand picked by Watt and Thorn, this album delivers a whole new perspective of some of the tracks we all know and love. From the hip-hop stylings of DJ Jazzy Jeff (a welcome surprise addition) and Kenny Dope, the uplifting house of Knee Deep, the moody electronica of Brad Wood and Pull Timewarp, to the unmistaken drum and bass sounds of Adam F and Fabio, these remixes give new depth to Everything But The Girl's tracks. Not only this, it also highlights the fact that however you look or hear it, Everything But The Girl is without doubt a one-of-a-kind dance act. With Thorn's haunting and incomparable voice and Watt's simple yet faultless productions, they will always be a major influence in dance music culture, and serve as a perfect example of dance industry longevity.
