Metal News.
Those wanting to see Slaughter Thou play before they travel over to NSW later in the month to perform their first interstate gigs should get down to The Land of Promise Hotel on Sat 12 March; the group will be playing there with Sarsekim, Bloodmason, and new band, Of Grator, "Adelaide's only exponents of extermination metal".
Alternatively, those whose metal tastes may
not be quite so extreme may instead wish to spend Sat 12 March
at the first day of Crafterfest 2005, the follow-up to last
year's highly successful Prepare To Burn festival. Held on the
12th and 13th of March at Fowlers Live, Crafterfest will be
an all-ages event, and "will showcase some of Australia's biggest
and best bands in hardcore and metal". A total of thirty bands
will play over the two days, including I Killed The Prom Queen,
Last Nerve, Parkway Drive and Shot Point Blank. The first band
hits the stage at 1:30 PM on Saturday, and 2:30 PM on Sunday.
Tickets are only available at the door and if you want to go,
you'd better be quick; last year's event apparently sold out
in just under an hour.
Northern Assault 3, another all-ages show, will be held at the new Le Rox (Bridgeway Hotel) on Sat 19 March, and will feature an impressive line-up comprising headliners Raven Black Night, The Loving Tongue, Mythica (return gig), Juggermath, Murder Hill (formerly Cloth Tape) and Sarsekem.
On the subject of Mythica, Northern Assault
3 will double as the launch for this band's self-titled debut
CD. Copies of 'Mythica' can be obtained from Big Star Records
(city store), and will also be available at The Muses in a few
weeks' time.
And on the subject of another band that will be performing at Northern Assault 3, Raven Black Night will be launching their debut CD, 'Choose The Dark', on Fri 29 April at Fowlers Live. Other bands who will be playing at that show will be Slaughter Thou (launching their own new release, 'The Anzac Hammer'), Juggermath, and Vars. The band also hope to release the album in Germany later this year.
Daniel McDougall is a Melbourne fan of the
late Dimebag Darrell who has come up with a novel way to commemorate
the former Pantera/Damageplan guitarist, who was fatally shot
at a Damageplan show last December. McDougall, the vocalist
for a band called Block, is a screen printer by trade, and is
offering fellow Dimebag fans a chance to buy a T-shirt honouring
the artist for only $5 (+$2.50 p&h for each shirt). The front
of the shirt features a photo of the guitarist (along with his
name, and dates of birth and death), while the back bears the
message "RIP Dimebag Darrell You will live in our memories forever.
The Metal Heads of Australia." All McDougall asks is that anyone
who buys a T-shirt sends him a photo of themselves wearing it,
so that he can send as many of these as possible to the members
in both Pantera and Damageplan, to let them know just how much
Dimebag meant to the metal heads of Australia. Interested people
should e-mail him care of thedimeshirt@hotmail.com, while more
information about him and the aforementioned offer can be found
on www.blocknation.com.
Fans of US metal act Korn will probably be dumbfounded, dismayed and even disgusted (and certainly not delighted) to hear that guitarist and founding member, Brian "Head" Welch, has just split with the band, citing "moral objections" to its music as his reason for leaving. Having recently rededicated his life to Christianity, Welch was reportedly not happy with the direction Korn's music and videos had been taking in recent years, being particularly upset with his portrayal in a clip for a cover the band did of a Cameo's Word Up (in this clip, his face was superimposed on a dog patrolling a strip club). Welch apparently gave a more thorough explanation for his decision to leave the band at the Valley Bible Fellowship in Bakersfield, California, and should now be in Israel, doing God knows what.
