Moonlight Recordings Volume 5
Moonlight Projects/Inertia
It's unlikely that you'll see a more eclectic mix of tracks on the one compilation. The only thing connecting the various songs on 'Moonlight Recordings Volume 5' is that they've all featured prominently on film, so the biggest surprise is how well it all hangs together.
Some of the songs are delightfully obvious ('High Fidelity' is represented
by The Beta Band's Dry The Rain, 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'
contributes Yello's Oh Yeah, Simple Minds weigh in with The
Breakfast Club's Don't You (Forget About Me) and 'Swingers'
gets a look in via Dean Martin singing You're Nobody Until Somebody
Loves You), others less so (sure, Tears For Fear's Head Over
Heels is a welcome inclusion, but for 'Donnie Darko'? And why
choose Zero 7's pleasant-but-bland Waiting In Line over one
of The Shins rather more prominent entries from 'Garden State'?).
However, who's going to complain about a soundtrack so filled with
great songs, whether it's Weezer's Island In The Sun ('Mr Deeds'),
Phoenix's Too Young ('Lost In Translation') or Portishead's
Glory Box ('Stealing Beauty')? If you have washing up to do,
or happen to work for a magazine, this is perfect background music.
