Axis & AlliesAxis & Allies
PC
Atari

Attention all real-time strategy fans: I give you 'Axis & Allies.' Playing 'Command & Conquer' or' Red Alert' always left me happy but not completely satisfied since the game was missing an aspect of reality. However, Atari have developed something that's near-genius: a real-time strategy game based on WWII, resulting in a gameplay experience almost too real to believe.

'Axis & Allies' will grab you from the second you step onto the battlefield. You have a choice of five nations, with four real commanding officers each nation that actually served in World War II. Play for England, Germany, America, Russia or Japan and see what might of happened if Hitler had won WWII.

There are a few modes in this game worth a mention: single campaigns for when you just want to kill in some spare time, a custom campaign if you want to make the odds a bit more even for your side or, my personal favourite, the World War II mode. The WWII mode is just like the old board game 'BattleField', but this time you can either do a real-time battle or do a quick draw to decide the victor of the land.

One thing I have often been disappointed in with PC strategy games is the amount of upgrades you have to go through before you can have a medium strength army. 'Axis & Allies' take care of this problem by providing just enough upgrades to keep you happy, but not obscuring the plot. Another highlight of the game is the multi-player option: not only can you kill those bastard enemies but you can also kill your bastard friends over the net.

On every level 'Axis & Allies' is easily one of the best Real-Time strategy games I have ever played. And remember: the fate of the world rests in your hands. No pressure or anything.
