Dance News.

Earlier in the week, Daft Punk's new single Robot Rock was available for purchase on the iTunes website. Fans greeted this release with enthusiasm, but it was quickly pointed out that the French boys did little more than add the lyric "robot rock" to a 1978 song by Breakwater called Release The Beast. This adds to the growing number of voices heralding the "death of dance". Simon Reynolds, formerly of Melody Maker, published an extremely negative diatribe against dance music in the haughty pages of the New York Times. Citing the relative flops of both The Prodigy and Fat Boy Slim's last releases and blaming "Ecstasy Burnout" for the decline of dance, he claims that dance is suffering a midlife crisis, comparing it to rock in the 'eighties. Obviously this guy hasn't visited Adelaide, where dance music is kicking on quite well with a host of massive events vying for our dancing dollar. We may be at the arse end of the world, but at least we still know how to party!

Starting up, this weekend is looking great for the Junglist crew. DJ Suv and L Natural has now been confirmed to play at Black Cat on Fri 11 Feb, alongside Stamina MC, whilst Dom & Roland bring his (yes, it IS one person!) incredible sound back to Adelaide for one night only at the Soda Room on Sat 12 Feb. The latter has limited capacity; so get your tix early, as lots of interstate travellers are gearing up to come over for this.

If you haven't heard, Minke /Skylab has been reborn! And what better way to celebrate than with the return of shaggy-haired producer extraordinaire James Holden? Crossing traditional genre boundaries, Holden has found fans in almost every scene. Get along to see him on Thurs 10 Feb.

It's no longer a rumour: the Good Vibrations festival is set to hit The Shores, West Beach on Fri 18 Feb. Kicking off early at 5:30pm, join international superstars Mylo, Handsome Boy Modelling School, Lyrics Born, DJ Patife & MC Cleveland Watkiss and Jazznova alongside a feast of Adelaide's best DJs for one wild party vibe.

Future Entertainment and Fabric launch the Two Tribes 2005 CD on Fri 18 Feb at Garage. Special guest Mark James from Melbourne, who compiled and mixed the CD, joins regulars Mal Chia, Lachy Pender, Steve Culgan and Phil T to celebrate the welcome return of one of Australia's biggest electronic music festivals to Adelaide.

Get set as the ECHO crew present John Askew direct from the UK's Ministry of Sound on Fri 18 Feb. Joining this trance master is Reemo to launch Australia's first trance CD, exclusive to Echo and Soda Room. Echo residents also include DJ Solace, Matt Parker and Agent Smith, so get along and shake your bootay to some of the best trance the world has to offer.

You got to laugh at the ignorance of some people. British National Party (the UK's Right Wing White Supremist Party) members walked out of their own Christmas party after accidentally hiring a black DJ. A somewhat red-faced BNP organiser Bob Garner said "There was a bit of a cock-up. The chap who booked him didn't realise. He sounded white on the phone. Everyone was a bit alarmed when he turned up with his lights and console. A lot of people weren't happy... One or two walked out." Luckily for them, none of the BNP members told the DJ who his audience was - and kept their racist beliefs to themselves. "We had to be careful what we said. What are you supposed to do? Tell him to clear off? It was very, very embarrassing," Garner added.
