Prize Frenzy™!

Frenzor™'s been pretty busy getting set for the Big Day Out (do you know how hard it is to find sunscreen suitable for a black-winged daemon that normally only emerges on moonless nights, let alone a brand that comes in industrial-sized vats), but he hasn't let that get between him and your scamriffic prizery. Hence, if you get yourself on a phone at 1pm on Fri 28 Jan and dial 8231 0881, you can get your grubby little paws on your choice of the following:

1. It's the most Big Day Out themed issue of dB Magazine that you could dare imagine, so it would be strange if EMI hadn't slipped us some copies of this year's BDO compilation. Aren't they lovely?

2. Brett Allen-Bayes has an illuminating chat with Rufus Wainwright about his family-heavy show at the Festival Centre on Fri 4 Feb: and you could be there too, provided that you win one of the double passes that Gaynor Crawford has kindly slipped our way.

3. Steve Jones unravels the enigma that is Home For The Def and to celebrate Nigel "HFTD" Koop has kindly handed over some copies of his 50th - count 'em! - album, cunningly entitled'50/13.'

4. Chris Niehus gets the lowdown on what's happening with Women In Docs in this issue - and as it happens, we've acquired three copies of their brand new 'Times Like These' CD-EP, thanks to Australian Music Biz.

5. Or perhaps you're intrigued by the mysteries of 'The Da Vinci Code'? Scott Berry reviews the 'Cracking The Da Vinci Code' DVD in this issue and the good people at Kaleidoscope have given us a few copies to hand around the place.

6. Andrew P Street chats with US popsters the Starlight Mints about their deliciously melodic 'Built On Squares' CD, and you can live the dream by grabbing a copy thanks to Remote Control.

7. Frente are back, baby! Kelly Parish gets all the goss from Angie Hart in this issue and Will Larnach-Jones publicity has very kindly come to the party with two copies of their brand new 'Try To Think Less' CD-EP.

8. Alternatively, maybe you'd rather catch Frente at the Grace Emily on Sun 30 Jan? We have two double passes, thanks again to Mr Larnach-Jones.

9. Or how about grabbing a copy of Hatebreed's 'Rise Of Brutality', thanks to Roadrunner? After all, they're playing at the Big Day Out and Adam Hood even has a chat with them in this issue!

10. Or maybe you'd rather shake your thang to the Beautiful Girls at the Gov on Fri 28 Jan? The fine people there have given us two double passes in honour of Kelly Parish's fine interview in this issue.

11. And speaking of thang-shaking, Julian Cram speaks to Freq Nasty about music, politics and the shaking of thangs in this issue, and Julia Gumbleton PR have kindly handed over two double passes for his show with DJ Krush at Black Cat on Thurs 10 Feb.

12. And since the legendary David Byrne (you know, him from Talking Heads) is playing at the Norwood Concert Hall on Sat 12 Feb, Peter Darwin and Flashpoint have slipped us two doubles to the show.

Online Only Frenzy™!

The Frenztron5000™ is back online after a small altercation with invaders from beyond the stars over the break, but it's snared three DVDs of the controversial gay/Mormon flick 'Latter Days' (whose director C. Jay Cox talks to Brett Allen-Bayes in this issue). All you have to do is answer this simple Mormon-related question: what was the name of the convincted fraudster and flim-flam man who founded the Mormon faith after apparently being directed to the Book Of Mormon by an angel? Send your answer to andrew@dbmagazine.com.au and win!
