Dance News.
Adelaide's only daily print news source has done it again with the fantastic headline "3pm and the drugs are out" and following a 'expose' on our rave scene on page 5 and 6 of the Sunday Mail (mind you, Page One was dedicated to Leyton's new car, which of course is much more of a concern to the people of Adelaide). Featuring photographs of pills and dancers, the story wasn't too bad really, but what gets me is simply: why now? This was Enchanted number seven. It's possibly the last Enchanted ever. It's a bit strange.
Maybe it's the Advertiser'sz way of showing
that dance music isn't dead. Like the UK's DJ Magazine, who
have launched a scathing attack on two ex-dance writers. "Just
like that other turd Conor McNicholas, Alexis Petridis seems
to take great pleasure in pissing over a culture that helped
launch your career in journalism," DJ Magazine barked. "And
just like him, you boast of being an indie-kid turned dance
music letch because you fell in love with drugs. That makes
you a scab," they spat. What do I want for Christmas? No fighting
at home...
For those who like to celebrate the silly season in rave style, Caos Cafe will be transformed for the last Frequency in 2004 on Fri 17 Dec. With all new multilevel dance floor and stage, crystal clear KV sound system and more lights'n'lasers then ever before plus indoor and outdoor areas, the Special Xmas performance by Adelaide's NRG producers Narc live and DJ Impulz plus "Da tekno FREQs" DJs L8's vs. Anarki vs. 'Kenny the killa' Koncept. Along with this is DJs Solace (Echo Crew), Cheeky B, Omen, Zealous, Force, Pranksta, Dirty Harry, Trademark, Marty B and Adrian V plus MCs Rudeboy, Fox-E, Divert and MIF.
One of the true pioneers of hip-hop are making
their way to Adelaide. Members of the Native Tongues Posse,
De La Soul were labelled "hippies of hip-hop" because of their
whimsical non-ganster rap approach. They will be supported by
Murs & Luckyiam, two of the dopest underground MC's from LA,
plus local support from Terra Firma and The Beat Smugglers on
Wed 29 Dec at the Old Queen's Theatre.
If you're off for a holiday and driving through Victoria, remember police are now testing for amphetamines and marijuana. Please don't drive under the influence of drugs, and for more information on the tests and procedures, please visit www.arrivealive.vic.gov.au/c_drugsAD.html.
