Music From Thinking XXX
Emperor Norton/Stomp

This CD is designed to accompany the 'Thinking XXX' photography book (and accompanying documentary) in which Timothy Greenfield-Sanders photographs and interviews 30 porn stars. However, more interestingly, this beats-driven comp is one of the best distillations of that vague genre called 'electroclash' that I've ever seen, no matter what the premise.

Most of the material is very recent, a good deal of its exclusive to this compilation and it's all pretty damn sexy (considerably more so than the unclothed pic of Jenna Jameson on the cover - they've put the extra cover on for a reason). Felix Da Housecat and Princess Superstar collaborate on the storming Choochi Coo, Ladytron pop up with the brand new Sugar, Mylo reinvent their Muscle Car and Virgin Tears make a knowing nod to Gary Glitter with Rock'n'Roll (Part 3). There are also some inspired covers here: Tiga don't mess too much with Nelly's Hot In Herre, but Futon reinvent The Stooges' I Wanna Be Your Dog into a twitching, menacing electro beast. The older tracks are also well-chosen: the CD starts off perfectly with Peaches' AA XXX, Moderato (featuring French ultra-producer Bertrand Burgulat) contribute HLM, Goldfrapp's Train sits perfectly in the middle of the CD and the whole thing comes to an unexpected but well-chosen close with the Velvet Underground's Here She Comes Now. It's all really rather ace.

The rudie pictures in the booklet are kind of scary though.
