Spunk: Days Of Future Past
Spunk/Inertia

The Shins. Stephen Malkmus. Mogwai. Machine Translations. Bright Eyes. Guided By Voices. Sleater-Kinney. Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Cornelius. And way more.

If by some fluke you haven't heard of one of these artists then you still need to get this compilation. There's something here for fans of all kinds of music here, from the funky beats of Four Tet to the acoustic stylings of Calexico. The Spunk label has been responsible for bringing some of the world's best indie music to our shores since 1999, and this retrospective compilation really puts things into perspective.

Not enough? The best is yet to come, dear reader. Also included is a second disc of rareties, some of them recorded live in Australia over the last decade, some of them culled from rare 7 inch releases and tour EPs. All of these are fantastic.

In particular, an acoustic recording of My Morning Jacket's Jim James on Melbourne's RRR radio will send shivers down your spine. Acoustic tracks from The Pernice Brothers and Cat Power also go down a treat. Jam packed with great music and an insightful set of liner notes, this set is worth far more than the selling price.
