Castings' aquatic drone music is thick and verdant with minute details thriving inside its mass. Grainy warped guitars play hide and seek in warm ululating waves of electronics. Pithy percussion and subtle samples build up and fall down within the mist. Blues, the centrepiece from the Newcastle quintet's debut EP is a 15-minute long navigation into a cosmic marine world. At times echoing it's trans-Tasman counterparts The Dead C and Birchville Cat Motel, Castings is an improvising ensemble with it's collective eye fixed on making noise soundscapes which alternate from serene to dissonant, lush to stark.

With this EP to be re-released via American imprint Tiny Philanthropist, and a new EP titled 'Uh Lotta Ukelele' and split 7" with Melbourne duo ii imminent, Castings is busy making some of the freshest, most vital music in all of Australia. Enter the bathysphere and creep into its illuminated world. Wrestle with an octopus; open your ears to the sound of the sound of the sea.
