Local metal outfit Lotosoma have recently been signed to Distorto Pop, an offshoot of Greasy Pop Records. The deal will allow them to record their first EP in about a months' time, and if all goes well, they aim to to sign with Greasy Pop for subsequent releases. In other news, Lotosoma will be supporting Tidal for the album launch of 'Impulsive Disturbance' at the UniBar on Sat 9 Oct. Other bands on the night also include Walk The Earth, featuring ex-Superheist guitarist D.W. Norton. Doors open at 8pm.
Mortiis's third album for Earache, the follow-up
to 2001's 'The Smell Of Rain', is now available in stores. Further
developing the electro-industrial sound brought to the forefront
of 'The Smell Of Rain', 'The Grudge' has been hailed as the
eccentric Norwegian darklord's most dynamic and extreme album
to date. "The songs sound a lot more certain of themselves and
all around it is a lot harsher, a lot heavier," explained Mortiis.
"It contains the anger I was unable to vent last time around."
Boston-based hardcore quintet Diecast triumphantly return with their much-anticipated new album 'Tearing Down Your Blue Skies', due out on Mon 25 Oct. This is the band's first release since their highly acclaimed debut full length, 'Day Of Reckoning', was released over three years ago. Since that time, the group has progressed as musicians and songwriters, combining Slayer-esque riffs, Hatebreed breakdowns, Killswitch Engage melodies and massive hooks to produce an album that is expected to be both heavier and more melodic than its predecessor.
New York City's Most Precious Blood will
hit our shores this Oct and Nov for their first Australian tour.
Formed from the ashes of Indecision in mid-2000, Most Precious
Blood have created a sound which combines the intensity and
rage of the New York City hardcore mentors (Sick Of It All,
Agnostic Front, the Cro-Mags) with the dark and depressing aesthetics
of bands like Sisters of Mercy and The Cure. Ex-One King Down
vocalist Rob Fusco joined the band in 2003, adding further intensity
and passion to the hardcore outfit. Most Precious Blood play
a licensed, all ages show at the Enigma Bar on Wed 3 Nov.
Cult Of Luna's follow-up to the critically acclaimed 'The Beyond' is set to be an even more unforgiving concoction of majesty, claustrophobia, celebration and sheer futility. "[With 'Salvation'], we understood that making heavy music didn't necessarily mean turning the dial up to 10," main songwriter Johannes Persson, explained. "We decided to work from the idea that less is more. Very early on we decided that we were going to lose the 'wall of sound' to allow for more mellow parts; our main priority was to make each of the different elements much clearer. The new line up has made the COL sound much more organic: having Anders (keyboards) in the band has allowed us to use fewer samples this time and has meant our musical skills have improved immensely so we can push our music forward, and our new drummer Thomas has such a distinctive style and with him working with other types of percussion our rhythm section has actually become a lot groovier!"
